Loving the Bike Has No Age Boundaries

A couple weeks ago, I found this picture on Facebook.  It was posted by Allen Beuchamp, but more than likely shared by countless cyclists across the web. I’m still not sure what I think of social media, and as I said once before….it does not define you.  But I do love seeing great photos...

Betty Designs: Kits For More Than Just Pretty Girls and Triathletes

Talk about being impressed by the service of a company…what Betty Designs went through to get me one of their kits is downright incredible. Before getting into the story of how this complementary Graffiti bib short and jersey came to me, let’s talk a little about what this kick butt sports clothing company is...

Bradley Wiggins: A Big Personality

Last night saw Bradley Wiggins crowned ‘BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012’ despite an extended field of competitors. Live Slow…..Bike Fast

December 17, 2012
By

I saw someone with a touristy t-shirt sold here in Grenada that said: “Live Slow”.  It totally caught my attention because as usual I’m in need of constant reminders to de-stress and love life. As is the case with many people, I often find myself needing to rush around and get as many things...

Mike Gascoyne is one of the most renowned technicians in Formula One, but his team over at Catherham Composites are set out to make other things lighter, stronger, faster, and more efficient….including bikes. I honestly had never heard of Mike or Catherham before last week, but when my friends from Sailing School Grenada told me...

The Roads Might Be Safer Than We Think

December 14, 2012
By

I’m a huge supporter of all the great cycling advocacy organizations out there pushing for safer roads and improved cycling infrastructure, but I’m going a little controversial on you today and saying that the roads just might be safer than we think. I’ve been living and cycling here in Grenada for over a month...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
