Which Eggs are Best?

November 3, 2012
By

What are the best type of eggs to eat, and should I include them in my diet? Kelli’s Answer: Some eggs have a higher concentration of omega-3s than other eggs because the chickens that produced them were fed a vegetarian diet that contained omega-3s.  However, since these omega-3s are from flax and vegetarian sources,...

Goodbye Austin, Hello Grenada

As you read this blog post, I’m on my way to (another) new life.  This time it’s the Caribbean island of Grenada.  We’re sort of a Gypsy Family and have moved around countless times over the past 8 years….but this time I’m really planning on planting my feet in the sand and staying there...

Loving the BITE: Junk Food Anti-Venom

What’s the opposite of candy overload?  In a word, celery.  It’s the anti-junk food.  In fact, spend a day eating celery (in addition to other whole healthy foods), and you’ll tend to feel less bloated, lighter, and healthier.  With its gentle diuretic effects, celery can get the bloat off that’s often caused by too...

Making a Connection With Your Gels

Making a Connection With Your Gels

I’m not saying that cyclists need to take energy gels or bloks, but if you’re going to take them I do feel that you need to use the ones that work best with your body. As I’ve said many times before, I don’t promote a product just because they support this website or pay...

Florida Mountain biking on the Mala Compra Trail

October 30, 2012
By

I’m not exactly a mountain biker, but from what I know about it I wouldn’t expect Florida to be a hotspot for this sport. Last week we introduced a monthly mountain bike article from our friends at Singletracks, and it received a great response from our readers.  Greg will be back again each month...

After last month’s ‘What to do next’  post I thought I’d get a closer look at Cross racing and headed to London’s Alexandra Palace for the Rapha Super Cross 2012 All photos courtesy of Rapha Although I might not have been competing this year, the fun, the bikes, the mud and of course the...

Electronic Free Day…on and off the Bike

Quite a while ago our Family decided to make Sundays an electronic free day, meaning we wouldn’t use the TV, Computer, Phone, or any other similar device.  We’re not generally electronic obsessed, but for this one day a week we make sure to keep them off and totally focus on quality Family time. It’s...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
