Faith….on and off the bike

Sometimes you just have to throw it all out there to the Universe and have faith that everything will work out fine….both on and off the bike. Have you ever ridden your bike into traffic?  You know, riding towards oncoming traffic instead of having it come from behind you.  I don’t recommend you doing...

That Ain’t Suffering

The word “Suffering” seems to be in the vocabulary of most cyclists, and generally seems to fit our sport quite well.  Heck, the guys over at The Sufferfest have even created the Tour of Sufferlandria for cyclists to join in the suffering from their pain cave. I’ve totally bought into the term and find...

Kentucky Dirt Derby

For those of you who have been under a rock, the world seems to be getting either seriously wet and quite floody or firey and rather hot. A Soft Touch over Muscle

I’ve learned the hard way that bicycle repair takes a whole lot of finesse, and not too much muscle.  Yeah, you know what I’m talking about right? Tightening a carbon seat post, adjusting shifter cables, and pretty much everything else on a bicycle requires a soft touch or else you just might do more...

3 Tips for Getting your Bike Through the Winter Commuting Season:

So you are hardcore enough to brave the elements this winter and ride to work.  Good for you!  It’s so much more difficult to motivate yourself to ride in the morning when you know that Mother Nature is not going to gently embrace you with a thousand warm kisses of the sunrise.  No instead,...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
