Virtually Fixed

It’s been about three years since I last had a professional bike fit.  Although it was done virtually, it totally helped my performance and comfort on my road bike.  Best of all, my bicycle fit was what started a fantastic friendship with my (now) good friend and Cycling 360 co-host….Victor Jimenez.  If you weren’t...

A Surefire Way to Cure Vehicle vs Cyclist issues

Okay, so I’ve come up with the ultimate guaranteed way to cure the issues found on the road between cyclists and motorists.  Well, actually I’m kind of stealing the idea from my good friend Daniela who mentioned it recently in a comment. She posted this on Facebook in response to my recent “Plea to...

#bikeschool Has Taken on a Life of it’s Own

I guess I’ve always known that #bikeschool had a life of its own, but now it’s official.  It’s getting close to three years since @egggman, @bikerly, and I launched the hashtag that rocked the world of Twitter….and it hasn’t stopped since. Week after week, #bikeschool becomes a trending hashtag on Thursday nights, but that’s only part...

Lifestyle Hacking Makes Me Happy

This post was inspired by the coolest 13-year-old I know….his name is Logan LaPlante and he’s the creator of what he calls Hackschooling. If I was still a kid going to school, I would most definitely be asking my Parents if I could follow in Logan’s footsteps and be a Hackschooler just like him.  I’m totally serious that these...

Loving the BITE: More Muscle Oxygen with One Key Ingredient

Beetroot Juice.  Have you heard?  It’s said to be the newest, greatest, most effective fueling ingredient to hit cycling in recent times.  Yes, there’s currently a lot of hype.  Some of the claims are definitely legit, and some are a bit of a stretch.  In research (which has actually been conducted on beetroot juice...

What’s Your Number 1 Motivator to Ride?

Even if you’re loving the bike, there may be days when you require some extra motivation to get out there and ride.  Maybe it’s because you’re having a busy day, not feeling 100%, or just not as psyched as you usually are.  Whatever the reason, there’s likely going to be days when you have to...

Loving the BITE: Strike Gold with Kale and Greens

I’m feeling lucky.  This week, I finally figured out how to serve Kale, in its wonderful, super-nutrient, raw form.  For months, I’ve been forcing my family to grin and bear it as I “snuck” raw kale into the greens of our dinner salads.  Even the three-year-old wasn’t fooled.  Sure, he grumbles, but he’ll eat...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
