TdF Stage Riders Raise Money for Charity

TdF Stage Riders Raise Money for Charity

A group of riders recently took part in a fantastic dream ride all in the name of charity.  I must say that I’m quite jealous of these lucky cyclists.  Not only did they do a great thing for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity, but they also got to cycle a route that I...

Loving the BITE: Healthy Carrot Cake Snack Bites

Are nutrient-packed, fresh, healthy foods really affordable?  I’ve gotta tell you, one of my pet-peeves is when health advocates swear that eating whole, real foods will actually save you money compared to buying unhealthy ones.  Sure, if you eat out every night, you’ll save money buying healthy foods from the store and making dinner at home. ...

We never seem to get overly artsy here at Loving the Bike, so when my Twitter pal @soozed said she’d be interested in posting a picture and text each month from one of her rides…..I knew it would help provide this sort of content. Here’s the first in what I hope is many more...

Cycling in Malaysia: Observations

Well hello again. Thanks to everyone who commented on my previous post (Loving the Race) as well as mentioned it on social media.  Writing regularly for a site other than my own is a new experience, much like the rest of my life right now!  No one had any racing questions for me this...

Pick Up and Delivery by Bicycle

August 16, 2013
By

I might not have mentioned it enough times in the past, but I’m the proud owner of a bicycle café in the Caribbean called Mocha Spoke.  I also commute to work by bike 99% of the time….so my work life is pretty much as bikey as possible. During the day we’re quite often in need...

Loving the BITE: 3-Minute BBQ Sauce and Condiment Information

I have lost years of my life in grocery store aisles.  When I want a specific product that meets specific standards, and at a price I’m willing to pay, I will search high and low. Unfortunately, sometimes the quest is futile.  Sometimes, even while my kids are nearing the point that no parent wants...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
