Loving the BITE: 5 Things Cyclists Should Eat Daily

It’s not about them vs. us. There’s middle ground, to be sure. I’m not talking about the election (thank goodness!). I’m taking about food. While it’s easy to get sucked into a “one best” diet mentality and declare that your way of eating is superior to another, lemme tell you…I’ve been around this whole...

What’s dinner prep like around your house? Peaceful? Calm? Quiet? Yeah, me too. Just kidding. Let me paint a picture. Usually, there’s 1 or 2 boys with their heads in the pantry, digging for snacks and claiming that there are none. There’s one child crying and pulling on my pants while I’m trying to...

Loving the BITE: Chocolate Cherry Smoothie

Do you feel that? The feeling of sore knees or ankles? I feel it. My ankles hurt a bit more this time of year because I’m “skinning” uphill at least a couple times per week with skis pulling on my ligaments and joints (there’s something about weight on your feet that gets those ankles!). And with...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
