JPhillipsJoel was born and raised in Cheyenne Wyoming.  From an early age it was clear he had an adventuresome spirit, limited only by his imagination and where his bicycle would take him.  Growing up Evel Knievel played a huge influence on how he rode a bicycle.  Popping wheelies, jumping anything he could put a ramp next to and a general no-holds-barred attitude about riding.

Also the athletic type, Joel played baseball, football, basketball and a thrower of the shot put and discus during track season.  Admittedly, Joel chose a difficult and dark path after high school, a self-destructive path that led to divorce and bankruptcy.

Tipping the scales at 377lbs, Joel took a ride on his bike one lunch hour in 2009 and his whole life changed.  Since then he has lost nearly 100lbs, rode in “Ride the Rockies”, became certified and teaches spin classes at his gym.  To top it all off, he is the Founder and Executive Director of a start-up non-profit organization, Arapahoe County B-cycle; an organization that will manage a bike sharing system for his community.

Joel has dedicated his life to getting more people to ride a bicycle and realize their dreams.  Follow him on Twitter: @Reasons2Ride.
