I’ll Meet You There

I know exactly what I want.  In fact I can even feel it.  It’s a confidence that everything is going to be okay.  It’s a place of safety, warmth, fun, and happiness.  I’ve visited it a few times, but only for fleeting moments.  I dream about it often….endlessly. I’m sure everyone chases their ideal...

March 5, 2014

I’ve been talking about it for a while now, but finally figured out what to do with Loving the Bike TV.  The series is going to be all about Loving Life on and off the Bike, and in this first intro episode I give a very brief explanation of what it’s all about. The...

Winging It

Winging It

I thought this past week was going to be a bust with riding. The plan was 15 hours for the week, to not only meet a challenge goal but also to get a lot of miles in on the bike. It started off OK, a ride with the fast group on Tuesday, a painfully...

Goofing Off

Goofing Off

What if you were to waste an entire year?  Spending all 365 days just goofing off and doing whatever you felt like without considering what “should” be done or what the “right” thing to do was.  Well, if you lived to be 85, you would have spent 1.18% of your life goofing off.  Looking...

Will Team #Lovingthebike do #30daysofbiking again?

Do you want to take on #30daysofbiking as part of Team #Lovingthebike this year?  For the past 3 years we have held our own challenge within the #30daysofbiking funfest, and to be honest I’m a little unsure as to whether we should do it again.  Here’s why. Life for Mr. LovingtheBike has become busy,...

Adapting

Adapting

Cycling, and life in general, is all about adapting. We adapt to new jobs, relationships, cities and other circumstances, and that pain you feel after a ride is your body adapting to the workload. All of this has been made more clear since moving to Malaysia. I’ll just talk about the cycling bit, though....

Feeling Alive

Feeling Alive

Why would anyone jump 45 feet into freezing water, or ride a bike 7 hours in the rain up and down mountains?  And why would someone train so freaking hard to run a marathon? There are so many things that people do…things that make your body hurt…things that take all the will and mind power...

Slow Down

Slow Down

I might not be a total speed junkie in all areas of life, but when it comes to cycling I most definitely am.  So it may seem a little strange that I’ve titled this post, “Slow Down”. You see, I feel happiest on my bike when I’m moving fast.  In life, I always seem to also be...

Flexibility On and Off the Bike

Flexibility On and Off the Bike

In my opinion, there are two kinds of flexibility important to us cyclists…physical flexibility, and being flexible to change things when necessary.  I’ve posted about physical flexibility in the past, and still do four simple stretches to maintain my flexibility.  You can check out my four cycling stretches right here. But if you have...

Cycling On Your Vacation

February 12, 2014
By

I want to know more about your vacation travel plans, and if cycling is part of determining where you travel next. As a guy who loves cycling and travel….as well as someone who just happens to own a Caribbean bicycle tour and rental company, it would help me out a lot if I knew more...

#bikeschool and Beyond

It’s not bragging if it’s true….right?  Well if you know me, you’ll know that I don’t generally talk all big and mighty about myself and the things I’m involved in.  But saying that #bikeschool is the coolest and greatest Twitter chat is just the dang truth. Each week I love reading the tweets about...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
