Enjoy the Competition. Enjoy Your Ride

Before moving to the Caribbean, one thought that ran through my mind was the idea of possibly learning a new sport or activity that would suit me perfectly.  I was of the belief that maybe there was a sport out there that would come naturally to me.  A sport that wasn’t even offered in North...

Do You Want 2 Fingers or 1?

Do You Want 2 Fingers or 1?

A lot of cyclists may have issues with this one, but I’m not afraid to admit that I give the middle finger to any driver doing something dangerous or stupid.  I’ll even give them the finger when I see them doing something stupid to someone else while I’m rolling by.  But I’m not biased…..I’ll...

If Life Were a Cup of Coffee

If Life Were a Cup of Coffee

If life were a cup of coffee, I would brew mine especially strong. Almost undrinkable. Very thick. Very dark. The cup would be extra large. Filling as much into it as I could. The first sip would be difficult, it would be very small. But the tingle on my lips would quickly send me...

Not Just Another Sunglasses Post: Ryders Eyewear

Surprise, surprise….I’m doing another post on sunglasses.  This has got to be at least the seventh time I’ve dedicated a post to this topic, but for me they really are the closest thing to being part of my body.  There isn’t any other one accessory that I wear as often as my sunglasses, and they...

Just Remember These 5 Words

With the risk of sounding like a beauty pageant contestant, I just wanted to say that world peace is a very cool concept.  There are many reasons I don’t watch or follow the news, but the glorification of war and violence is high on the list. Maybe they should change the name of that...

Smart Cyclists Can Run Red Lights

Let the controversy begin.  There’s always a lot of talk about cyclists and their behavior on the road…..red lights in particular.  Now it’s time for me to voice my controversial opinion. I’ve been wanting to write this post for quite a while now, but it wasn’t until I read an article called, “Why Bikes Make...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
