What Gets Your Butt Out of Bed?

I’ve interacted with a lot of our Loving the Bike readers and have a good idea of what motivates people to get on a bike….but what about motivation for life? What inspires you?  What motivates you?  Where do you get your passion?  All these things are related and it is small and large doses...

Lube It Up….on and off the Bike

Yeah, you know me….never afraid to say or do anything. So when asked if I would write about SASMAR personal lubricants, I had no problem agreeing. Hey, us cyclists use lube on our bike chains and chamois cream on our sore butts…..so why not personal lube when we’re having fun off the bike? Hahahaha,...

Allriot T-shirt Review

October 7, 2015
By

I know you know anything about me, you’ll know that one of my core values is wearing shorts, shades, sandals, and a t-shirt every day of the year.  A guy like that better have a whole bunch of t-shirts to choose from, right? Well, I can honestly say that the majority of my wardrobe...

Maui is a Cyclist’s Paradise

As you all know, my favorite type of cycling is when it’s in a warm climate with beautiful landscapes and views to ride through.  For me, it doesn’t get any better than riding along rows of palm trees and looking out at the endless horizon of ocean water. From rolling tropical hills, to beachfront...

The Einstein Vibe

The Einstein Vibe

I’ve always found it quite interesting that good old Albert Einstein rode a bike…..and tossed out a few great cycling quotes along the way.  He was a brilliant man and I’m so very proud to have him as a fellow cyclist. I’ve found myself leaning on him for support lately in the way of...

Avoid Flat Spots on Road Tires

Avoid Flat Spots on Road Tires

This week’s question to the mighty bicycle expert, Victor actually comes from me.  A few months ago my road bike tires sort of flattened out…you might even say they turned square.  I had no clue what caused it, but they’ve since been switched out and I’ve got nice round tires once again.  But I...

Push it to the Limit

There’s something that happens with athletes who train at the top of their game.  It’s almost like wiping out of their memory after pushing themselves to the limit.  At that moment of total exhaustion the athlete feels like they never want to endure this feeling again.  They finish training for that day and by...

The Bike is Always Greener…..

…..on the other side of the road. Yes, this is a play on one of the most famous proverbs in the World….please don’t judge me for the cheesy beginning to this post. Although we all might not fall victim to it, many of us have the tendency to look enviously at the lives of those...

Spinlister: Renting a Road Bike on Vacation

Going on vacation is great….but for me, I still feel the need to get some road bike miles in while I’m away.  Bringing your bike with you is great for so many reasons, but it can also be a huge cost and major pain.  Yeah, pretty much every airline I know charges at least...

Cycling Clothing For the Love of the Bicycle

My favorite line of cycling clothing is Viva la Bicicleta.  No question.  I love their style, I love their mission, and I love their forward way of thinking.  Best of all, it’s a small little company…..the kind I like to support the most. Viva la Bicicleta Philosophy: Get everyone out on a bike and...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
