Two wheels fast feet.  What does that mean to me?

When I first heard Two Wheels Fast Feet, I thought of kids riding their bikes around the nieghborhood, and others playing tag or having races. Basically, I think of kids being active.

Being active is important.  Get outside, and get active. Some kids don’t realize how important that is. I have noticed lots of kids my age would rather be inside on electronics. I have to admitt, I like my laptop, A LOT, but I would rather be outside playing with friends and siblings.

When you hear the word exercise, or active, what does that remind you of? It reminds me of adults doing boring workouts in the gym!! But the truth is, thats not all you can do to excersise! I do lots of FUN outdoor activities!! I like riding my bike with my family, running my dog around the neighborhood, and also jumping rope!!

I am home-schooled, so me and my brother play outside ALL the time!! We run through sprinklers, we ride bikes, we play tag with friends, and ALWAYS have fun!! But even if you do go to school, there will always be a time when you can be active outside! There is NO exuse for staying inside!! Even if you do have to do home-work, get it done, then play!!

In my opinion, 2 Wheels Fast Feet, is a great thing to have… It reminds kids to get outside and get active, while having fun.

My dad talked to the owner of Helmtops when he was on Twitter, and they said they would send him samples for me and my brother.  We got them in the mail and my dad helped us put them on.  Do you know what Helmtops even are?  They are these rubber things you stick on your helmet to decorate them.  I think they are awesome because they look really cool.

To get them on a helmet, you bend the bottom part and stick them through one of the holes.  They are really easy to put on and take off.  When they are on, you can’t even tell they are there.  Here is a video of how easy they are to put on:

There are lots of different Helmtop designs available.  My favorite is the flower.  Here is a picture of all the different types:

Do your kids like stickers on their helmets?  I think they would like Helmtops.

My little girl has made her Daddy so proud.  Following last week’s LiveSTRONG Challenge where I rode in honor and memory of my Wife’s cousin, Jordan, Kassidy took it upon herself to write this post. Wow, I’m so excited to share this with you.

Jordan.

My mom’s cousin.

He died at the age 15.

September 26 2007.

He had cancer.

Jordan.

He was brave.

He suffered a pain that cannot be explained or imagined.

His family suffered every step of the way, along with him.

Jordan.

Strong.  Courageous.

I knew cancer was bad.

Everybody does.

But knowing someone who died from it, makes you realize, cancer is not bad, it’s horrible.

I have only met him twice, that I remember, and yet, I want to be just like Jordan.

I want his strength; his courage.

We should all be more like Jordan.

This is my second post on Loving the Bike and this one is about my Grandma’s bike.

She got her bike for her 12th birthday.  Before that, she tried to learn how to ride a bike on her older brother’s bike, but it was too big and she couldn’t learn how to ride.

My Grandma and I talked about her bike and she told me some memories.  Here are two of them:

She rode her bike to school during the spring and fall.  One day while riding to school she decided to take a short cut.  While riding through a field, she saw a garden snake and accidentally rode over it! After that, she said she didn’t take that short cut anymore.  I love snakes, so I was upset that my Grandma rode over one!  Don’t worry Grandma, I still love you.

Anyways, she also told me a cougar story.  She heard a story going around that there was a cougar in the area that she biked through to get to school.  She told me that she remembers biking so fast through there, always picturing a cougar sitting in a tree starring at her.  Luckily, nothing ever happened.

I really enjoyed having my Grandma share some of her biking memories with me, from a bike she had when she was my age.  Thank you, Grandma.

I am extremely proud to introduce our newest contributor at Loving the Bike. Kassidy is my 11 year old daughter and will be writing posts about once a month. She is a great little writer and I hope you (and your kids) enjoy what she has to offer.  - Darryl

For my first post on Loving the Bike, I didn’t know what to write. Then I remembered how I learned to ride a bike.

When I was four years old, my mom and dad bought me a bike.  I got on and just rode!  Just Kidding!

Actually, when I was four, I lived on the island of St. Kitts.  I moved there when I was four and was seven when we left.  St. Kitts had bad roads, so it wasn’t safe for kids to be on them on a bike.  So I didn’t learn when we lived there.

When I was seven, we moved to Austin Texas.  I tried to learn there, but never seemed to figure out how to do it.  Then we went to Cambell River to see if we liked it enough to move there.  When we were there, I borrowed a scooter from the neighbors so I had something to do.  I think it helped me find my balance.

Then we moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  When I was nine, one of my friends came to play. She was riding her bike so my dad asked if I could borrow it.  My dad made me get on and try to ride. Once I got on, I was riding!  It was so easy.

So that means I was nine years old when I learned to ride a bike.  Maybe older than some kids learn, but never too late to enjoy all the fun that can be had on a bike.
