Thursday Night #Bikeschool (9PM EST)

A couple months ago @egggman, @bikerly, and I blogged about sharing lessons learned using the hashtag #bikeschool. The hashtag has taught us a lot. Not so much on technical issues, but more about life lessons.

We’ve heard about kids flying free without training wheels and what this has meant for the parent. There have been stories shared about mountain biking, volunteerism, beer biking, icebiking, biking with a family, and we’ve even had a couple Yogi Berrisms. It’s been amazing and fun to be part of this.

We’d like to take #bikeschool to the next level. By all means keep sharing your stories via blogs and tweets during the week using the same hashtag, but beginning this Thursday, October 21 at 9p EST and each Thursday through the rest of the year, we invite you to attend a live 60 minute Twitter discussion moderated by either Mike, Jim, or myself.

We’ll identify the moderator each Thursday on Twitter at 9p EST sharp using the hashtag #bikeschool. They will introduce a new topic or question every 15 minutes to keep the discussion lively. If you follow us on Twitter you know the discussion can get a little crazy. Expect more of the same, but most importantly expect to make some great cycling connections and have some fun.

Thursdays at 9:00PM EST on Twitter

So that’s Thursday night #bikeschool folks.  Are you ready for some cycling conversation? Questions? Contact @eggman, @lovingthebike or @bikerly and we’d be happy to help.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

Here are some tips on how to take part in #bikeschool (care of @bikerly):

    1. Have FUN.
    2. Login to your Twitter account from 9-10p EST.
    3. Use the hashtag #bikeschool in your tweets.
    4. If you are using TweetDeck just click on #bikeschool from any tweet. add a column to follow the discussion.
    5. Or follow along using this Twitter Search link.
    6. Or this TweetChat link is another option (there are probably more options).
    7. You might want to let people know your tweets will be a little crazy during the hour. Something like: tweeps, I’m heading to #bikeschool chat so just ignore my crazy tweets the next hour… or better, join in here http://bit.ly/9imv1H.
    8. The moderator will come with a few questions… Q1, Q2, Q3, etc. If your response begins with Q1, Q2, Q3 it will help us all follow along.
    9. Feel free to have side conversations, ask other questions, stir it up and most importantly throw at least a couple heckle tweets towards @egggman and @lovingthebike.
    10. Have FUN.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
