My teammate, Myron, is back once again with a great new series that will run each Wednesday in December. In September, Myron posted up some awesome articles in a series he called “Mac Mondays” and I’m very stoked to have him back once again for this one. As you know, I’m not a winter...

As you know, I’m primarily a road cyclist.  It’s what I love the most, and what I spend the majority of my riding time on.  But there are times when I want to commute somewhere or get out riding with the kids, so I need something for that as well. My secondary bike has...

Thursday Night #Bikeschool (9PM EST)

A couple months ago @egggman, @bikerly, and I blogged about sharing lessons learned using the hashtag #bikeschool. The hashtag has taught us a lot. Not so much on technical issues, but more about life lessons. We’ve heard about kids flying free without training wheels and what this has meant for the parent. There have been stories shared about mountain...

Nearly a Pancake: #bikeschool edition

Last week I was out on ride….no surprise there.  It was a beautiful day with little wind and 100% sunshine, so I stayed out as long as I could.  I got out far enough to know that I’d be arriving home with at least 110kms behind me and I was very happy about that. On the...

Call it a consortium….like some sort of Motley Crue or something.  But all it really is, is a bunch of people getting together to talk about what they have learned about life while being out on their bikes.  It’s as simple as that. A few weeks ago, my buddy @bikerly tweeted me a message...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
