Make it Happen Mondays – 7 Minute Diet

I’ve dedicated all Monday posts in January to “Cycling for Optimal Weight“.  There are a lot of riders out there who are “cycling for weight loss” or using the bike as their way of getting themselves in the shape they dream to be in…..and I honestly can’t think of a better way to get there....

Biking to Eat

December 20, 2010

There are countless reasons why I’m Loving the Bike, but one of them is definitely due to my love of eating.  You see, I enjoy being lean and in shape…..and when I’m out packing on the miles on my bike I feel as though I can enjoy the foods I love without the...

There Goes My Gatorade Sponsorship

December 9, 2010
By

By posting this, I realize that I’ve lost all hope of ever having my site sponsored by Gatorade (or Pepsico for that matter)…but I thought it made for an interesting story so I’m sharing it here today.   On one of the routes that I’ve been riding over here in Florida, I roll past...

Daily Nutrition vs Training Nutrition

We are very honored to have Kelli Jennings, registered dietitian (RD) guest posting today.  I wish I had even half the nutrition knowledge she has.  Kelli’s post contains valuable information that all cyclists and athletes should be aware of. Like many athletes, you may have found yourself reading the ingredients of your favorite sports drink...

Put This In Your Cupboard

Disclosure: When I wrote this post, I had absolutely no affiliation with Progressive (the makers of VegeGreens).  I simply liked their product and wanted everyone to know how I felt.  As always, the Loving the Bike reviews is totally and completely a 100% honest review. Anyway, after the post went out Progressive found out...

Fueled By Falafel

May 5, 2010

So you might not think there is a connection to cycling with this one….but by the time I’m done with my story on falafel, I will get to the part where it has aided in making me a stronger and healthier cyclist.  I’m not quite a full out vegetarian just yet….but I’m getting there....

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
