Stay Lean This Winter Tip #2: Training Nutrition vs. Daily Nutrition

What do you get when you eat like you’re summer-training even when you’re not? You’ve guessed it; most athletes get unwanted pounds. At the heart of the issue is the idea that athletes can, and should, eat a certain way and non-athletes should eat another.  I disagree. I think that both groups should eat...

Loving the BITE: Should cyclists go for RAW Power?

July 17, 2014
By

When it comes to veggies, the question I’m asked most (beside, do I have to?) is should they be eaten raw rather than cooked? The simple answer in most cases is yes…most of the time.  I like to see vegetables eaten raw more than 50% of the time, and when cooked, I recommend following...

Weight Loss: It Takes More Than Cycling

Cycling is an incredible way to get in shape and lose weight, but with the risk of sounding kind of negative…..I’m here to say that it’s going to take more than just cycling. I can bust my butt each week with over a hundred miles of grueling training, but if I’m eating like crap...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
