Loving the BITE: Health-Upgrade Balsamic Dressing

Here’s a shocker: I think more of our foods should be made at home.  I think when you buy a prepared food at the store, the time you save with buying it rather than making it should be spent checking (and double checking) the ingredients list.  I think athletes can stay healthy, recover better, train...

Each of these works great with the delicious taco cabbage slaw, cilantro, and home-fried shells! And although this recipe is a bit of a “cheat meal” for anyone...

Loving the BITE: Big Ride Pre-Load

It’s about 2 hours before your big ride. You’ve planned and prepared. Your bike is ready. Loving the BITE: Best-Ever Cabbage Slaw for Delicious Tacos

Seriously, is there really anything better than a great taco? I mean really. These are the important questions in life. And my answer right now (I’m hungry): No, there’s not. And, while I grew up on, and still love the classic ground beef, beans, cheese variety, my taco-tastes have changed a bit. Every year,...

Loving the BITE: Cold-Brewed Coffee for Summer Caffeine

It’s cold-brew season. Aka summer (or close enough, anyway). Just a few weeks ago, we discussed cold-brew green tea. Yes, please. Today, it’s cold brew coffee. Why, you ask? Deliciousness. Ease. Happy-belly-low-acidity – if you’re a coffee-lover with acid reflux, give this one a try. Better flavor. And, of course, it’s cold for hot...

Loving the BITE: Homemade Mayo – Condiment Swap

Not long ago, I made a mayonnaise for the first time. From. Scratch. I don’t know why I never tried before. I guess I kinda just gave up on mayo. I had replaced it with avocados (highly recommended) in many recipes, but still, sometimes, a little mayo would be good (like when trying to...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
