He Who Hesitates is a Damned Fool

I’d have to try really hard to find some sort of connection between the legendary actress, May West, and cycling….but because I love this quote of hers so much I’m going to do my best to make it happen.  (Oh, and I’ve decided to take off the “Make it Happen Monday” part off the...

Make it Happen Monday: B Strong

Can cycling save your life?  I don’t have to go any further than my friend Bethel Strong to answer that one.  Through his love for the bike, he’s been able to astound even his doctor who couldn’t believe the results he’s achieved through cycling. The absolute best part about having a blog and being...

Make it Happen Monday: Visualization and Affirmations

It’s no secret that many of the top cyclists (and other athletes) in the world use visualization techniques to reach the top of their game.  Today’s athletes are performing at levels that are at an all time high, and they all know that the mental aspects are just as important as the physical.  But...

Make it Happen Monday: Comparison to Your Best Self

I’m definitely of the opinion that we should strive to be the best person that we can possibly be….but sometimes making comparisons to your “best self” can have negative results. When I was around 14 years old, I spent a lot of my summers playing golf.  My friends and I would bike over to...

Make it Happen Monday: Your One and Only Body

That body of yours is the only one you’ll ever have.  What are you going to do with it?  Being involved in the world of Fitness for a large part of my life, this statement has always lingered in my mind.  What people do with their bodies is ultimately up to them, but why...

Make it Happen Monday: Power of Self Talk

Did you know that positive self talk can get you up that hill faster on your bike?  It sure can, but don’t take my word for it.  Today we have my good friend and Cycling 360 co-host, Rob Grissom here to share his personal story of how thoughts can have a dramatic effect on...

Make it Happen Monday: Paint a Smile on the World

I’ve mentioned this previously in a few social media posts, but I really would like to Paint a Smile on the World.  I’m not sure exactly how to describe it, but I get an overwhelmingly great feeling throughout my body when I pass by people who are laughing and smiling together.  Call me corny,...

Make it Happen Monday: Operation Opportunity

At one point in my life I was faced with a decision, and the wisdom that was provided to me was “Always Walk in the Direction of Opportunity”.  That statement has stuck with me these past 12 or so years and it’s been the reasoning behind my move to St. Kitts, my first move...

Make it Happen Monday: Money Fame Power Lifestyle

I feel there are four main ways to categorize how people are motivated…Money, Power, Fame, and Lifestyle.  There are others, (home security, location, respect, etc) but in my opinion these are the big ones.  Based on these motivational catalysts, we make our choices and move forward along our journey….all the while feeding this inherent...

Make it Happen Monday: The Cycling Monk

You don’t have to be a Tibetan Monk in order to know where you come from and what you stand for.  We all know ourselves better than anyone else… but what is necessary is a constant connection with this identity.  All of us are cyclists, and that alone speaks a lot of the kind...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
