You Don’t Know What I’m Going Through

We walk through our lives crossing paths with random people, taking them in, and often making opinions and judgments on what we see. We laugh, scoff, shake our heads….and worse.  Yeah, I’m guilty of this all too often. But have you ever found yourself on the other end of the story? Most of the...

Loving the BITE: Why Cyclists should drink Apple Cider Vinegar

A couple years ago, I introduced a “health tonic” to help fight colds and sinus infections and improve overall health. It works great, and as more readers chimed in, I’ve learned that this old-fashioned folk-medicine-cure-all is used by many different people in different cultures all over the world. But there’s more to this story for a...

The Ultimate Cycling Dream

I would imagine that a lot of cyclists would agree with what I feel is the ultimate cycling trip.  For me, it includes custom ordering a road bike from one of the great Italian manufacturers and then flying over there to pick it up and ride. Yeah, this would be amazing.  Imagine dealing directly with a...

When Life Gets Complicated

Just before New Year’s Eve, I labeled 2016 the year to Simplify.  Yeah, I seem to like to nickname the upcoming year for some reason. I honestly do think keeping things simple is a sure way to a happy life.  But what do you do when things gets more complicated than you’d like? You...

Loving the BITE: Start-It-Right Orange Carrot Smoothie

You’ve read it here before: This is not Jamba Juice. If you’re old-school, it’s not Orange Julius. Or Smoothie King. Today I have a big girl (big boy) smoothie recipe. You’ve been warned. As I type this, I’m on the brink of getting over a cold…one that feels like it could go either way –...

3 Ways to Deal With Someone Stealing Your Strava KOM

Are you on Strava?  If so, do you have some KOM’s that you’re so proudly holding onto?  Yeah, I’m sure you’ve got some nice one’s in your name….but what happens when you get that dreaded e-mail saying: Yeah, it sucks doesn’t it? Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
