#bikeschool: Every day is a school day

August 9, 2011

As some of you may be aware I took part in a bike race on Sunday… my first race in 26 years! I’ve been cycling for a few years now and I’m a terribly competitive little so-and-so, which made me realise I was ready to step my cycling up a level. This week’s...

Abs at 42

This isn’t supposed to come across as some sort of vain post, but rather an “if I can do it, so can you” sort of thing.  But by the time you’re done reading this post, I want you to have an overbearing sense of confidence that you can have the body you desire no...

Make it Happen Monday: Reality

Back when I was working in the tourism industry of St. Kitts, I would hear the same thing over and over from tourists about a day or so before they left the island….“It’s time for us to go back to reality”. The reply that my boss, X (yeah, that was his name), and I...

It’s a #TripleGood Day

My genius friend, Jim is always coming up with super cool ideas….and when I saw him start using the term #doublegood over on Twitter I just had to jump right in.  I love the feeling that word gives off, and if there were ever a #doublegood day….today is certainly it.  But it’s better than...

Make it Happen Monday: The Rituals of Radiant Living

About ten and a half years ago, I made a presentation at a business breakfast meeting.  This was no ordinary speech…I addressed a bunch of businessy type people wearing my totally “non-businessy” bright yellow pants, and delivered the presentation while sitting up on the speaking podium.  This day stands out to me, not because...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
