Are You Thinking of Moving in the Car – Less/Light Direction?

One of the coolest things that I’ve come across since starting this Loving the Bike site is learning about all the people out there living Car-Less.  I’m totally amazed by what these people are doing and have the utmost respect for anyone who has chosen to take this route in life. There is also...

May the Wind Be at Your Back, and the Sun Upon Your Face

The last time I had my friend Ian (aka @PedalmanTO) contribute to the blog, he told us all about “Keeping the Rubber Side Down“.  He’s back again with another motivating and inspiring cycling story. May the Wind Be at Your Back, and the Sun Upon Your Face – by Ian “PedalmanTO At some point...

Get S.T.O.K.E.D. For Your Cycling Goals

Like everything in life, it’s a lot simpler to achieve something when you set a goal for yourself and go after it.  I mentioned a simple formula for goal achievement in last week’s “Make It Happen Mondays” post: Create a goal, Get excited about it, and Make it Happen….and this week I’m here to...

40 Feet

February 11, 2011

Have you ever heard the quote, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”?  I think it was Confucius who coined that one.  How about this one…“The journey of a cyclist begins with the first 40 feet”?   When you set off for a ride, you’ve most likely got an idea...

I had only planned on running our “Make it Happen Mondays” feature for the month of January….but every week is a great time to Make it Happen, right?  I received a whole lot of positive feedback on our Monday feature, so I’ve decided to keep on Making it Happen. One year ago yesterday, the...

Bryan is Making it Happen

When we came out with our Cycling for Optimal Weight min-e-book on December 27th, we offered up the challenge (and reward) for all those who would commit to going on the program.  Five of you responded saying you were ready to go after your ideal weight using cycling to help get you there. Out...

Please BE KIND to Cyclists

Please BE KIND to Cyclists

You just can’t beat the phrase, “Please BE KIND to Cyclists” when it comes to conveying our feelings towards motorists.  It’s a message that all of us cyclists would like to pass along to our machine powered friends….and our spouses, children, and friends feel the same way. On a beautiful Austin morning in September...

Cycling for Optimal Weight

How many of you are using cycling to help achieve your ideal weight?  How many would like to obtain this through cycling?  We all ride a bike for different reasons, but health and fitness is definitely a common theme that runs through a lot of us recreational cyclists. But how do you get there? ...

Keep the Rubber Side Down

My Twitter friend…turned good close friend, @PedalmanTO, supplies a guest post today that will change the way you look at your life. More often than not, I’ll sign off an email or phone conversation with a friend by saying “Keep the Rubber Side Down.” I can’t nail down a date when it became the...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
