Le Tour Takes On Added Importance In 2020

The discipline of cycling has gone through a tumultuous year and with the threat of the Tour’s existence being called into question, the mere sight of pedals being turned in Nice would have offered a collective sigh of relief for all. None more so than for race director Christian Prudhomme and although he will...

What is Your Favorite Pro Cyclist Doing This Off Season?

Between November and January of each year, our favorite pro cyclists enjoy what could be defined as the off season…..but how much off time do you think they actually have? Unfortunately I’m not good buddies with any of the pros, but from what I’ve read and heard over the years it all depends on...

You Likely Aren’t Reading This

Yeah, sort of an oxymoron because if you’ve gotten this far then you are in fact reading this.  But come on, it’s Monday the 4th of July and the Tour de France is under way…..who has time to read a cycling blog? I guess the moral of this #MakeitHappen Monday post is to show...

Relax, Refresh, Recharge: Summer Moak is Ready for the Offseason

2 National titles, 3 National Records, and a trip to the emergency room (luckily only suffered some road rash) = another very successful 2015 racing season! But all good things must come to an end, which can only mean one thing……………………it’s the OFF-SEASON!!! The previous 2 years I’ve raced Cyclocross during the off-season and...

If For No Other Reason, This is Why You Should Respect Lance Armstrong

Okay, so he might have had a very large ego and took drugs along with pretty much all his competitors….but I still say all the good things Lance Armstrong did for cycling and cancer patients is more than enough to warrant respect. This is one of those topics where most people seem to have...

The Tour in Numbers… so far

We’ve seen pimped-out boat transfers, Aussie road rage, the perennial idiot dog (owner), riders suffering through crash related pain (chapeau G and Ted), GC contenders smashing each other… and GC contenders crumbling. If you think about it, apart from the craziness of Corsica, these things happen almost every year. But by the time we...

Tour de France – Red, White and Blue…and Green…and Pink

The Pro peloton are usually a colourful bunch and this years Tour de France is no different. But who needs to take some advice from Europe’s fashion capitals and who are the trend setters?   The ‘A Gé Deux Erre‘ name has been a part of the peloton since 1992 and previously had...

Jakey Cakey… watch this space! The amateur race scene in the UK is a tough place to learn your trade. Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
