Did Bob Marley Ride a Bike?

I wear a picture of him around my neck, I drink his new beverage, I listen to many of his songs while riding, and I do what I can to carry his “Don’t worry about a thing” vibe within me….yeah, it should come as no surprise that I have huge respect and am a...

Diesel and Pinarello challenge the urban streets

Okay, so just recently, the clothing brand Diesel teamed up with Pinarello cycling to create what they have labeled, “Only the Brave – a brand-new urban bike to ride the world’s streets”. I’ll give you some more specifics of the bike in a second…and I’ll leave it up to you to decide how cool or un-cool it...

#Coffeemates – Fitness Coffee Review

I haven’t been as big a part of it as I’d like, but thanks to my Twitter friend @marijolamarche there is a great group of people who meet up for some good chatting pretty much every morning. Marijo coined the Twitter Hashtag, #Coffeemates and it’s become a place where cyclists (and non-cyclists) can chillax...

How Do I Train Over Winter?

I’ve had a lot of people ask me about training over the winter, so today’s post comes right out of the old mailbag. It’s that time of year where many cyclists are forced off the road and driven to their basements to put in time on the trainer.  Have you seen some of the...

This Post Might Save Your Bike’s Life

Last week I was lucky enough to knock a couple items off my #cyclingwishlist (like, literally). As I’m sure is the case for many of you, my list is pretty long….and it’s always so exciting when I’m able to make them a reality. Ever since I got rid of my hitch mount bike rack, I’ve...

Water Bottles Revisited – The Clean Bottle

Back in June, we posted an article about How to Clean Your Water Bottle – Shake What Your Mama Gave You. We went over some cleaning methods for plastic and aluminum bottles, and talked about the importance of having a clean water bottle.  There were some great replies, including one from our Cyclelicious friend, Richard,...

The Sufferfest: Indoor Cycling Motivation

For quite a while now I’ve been wanting to check out “The Sufferfest” cycling training videos. David from Sufferfest Studios, Singapore sent me their videos a few weeks ago but since it’s not exactly indoor training season I haven’t been able to give them a test run.  This past Monday there was a torrential...

June 7, 2010

With just under two weeks until Father’s Day, time is running short on finding something for that cycling dad in your life.  I’m a dad, right…so I know there is never a shortage of great cycling gift ideas.  This year, I actually couldn’t wait for father’s day and bought myself a gift back in...

Help: I Need Shot Roks

Because I’ll only endorse something that I completely love and am excited about, there are not very many cycling nutritional products that I’ve promoted.  In fact, there’s only been three…..Nuun, VegeGreens, and now Shot Roks.  Sure, there are other great products out there, but these are the only three that I’ve come across so...

Put This In Your Cupboard

Disclosure: When I wrote this post, I had absolutely no affiliation with Progressive (the makers of VegeGreens).  I simply liked their product and wanted everyone to know how I felt.  As always, the Loving the Bike reviews is totally and completely a 100% honest review. Anyway, after the post went out Progressive found out...

Hardest Review Ever

For the past month I have tried to sit down and lay out a review of two different products…..Action Wipes and CarboRocket. Both of these companies sent me samples of their products for the purpose of reviewing it on this website, and although this has been super tough for me I am finally going...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
