Earth Day Has Always Been a Favorite

Ever since I was in University, Earth Day has been something I acknowledge and celebrate each and every year.  Back in those days it could have partly been because it occurred right around the end of exam time.  But since then, I’ve always tried to do something special that connects me with nature….and then...

Balance Bikes: Creating New Cyclists

It seems like forever that I’ve been waiting for this day to come.  It’s been about a year since the good folks over at Kazam sent me a balance bike for my little boy, and we’ve been waiting to ride it ever since. You see, my youngest Son is vertically challenged like his Parents...

Ascend Sportswear Creates a Cycling Masterpiece

Don’t you just love a hot new cycling jersey?  It’s even better when it’s got custom graphics to show off your new bicycle café. I must say that I’m wildly impressed by the crew over at Ascend Sportswear and the jersey they designed for Mocha Spoke. It all started with an e-mail from Ascend’s President,...

What Type of Cycling Route Do You Like Best?

Whether you’re a road cyclist or mountain biker, there are several different types of route types you can take when going for a ride….what type do you like best? I’m primarily a road cyclist, and my preferred type of ride is one that takes me on a loop from home and back.  When...

2013 Grenada Tri de Spice Triathlon

Grenada was host of a most successful triathlon once again this past weekend.  Yes, it’s the Tri de Spice triathlon and it just happens to be put on and organized by my Mocha Spoke business partner, Marc DeCaul. I’ve heard many times how this is the best run event on the island, and now after...

It’s Not Too Late to Strengthen Up

The 2013 cycling season is upon us, pretty much wherever you live.  Depending on where your location, each year there may be a period of time where you’re not able to ride outside…and when Spring arrives you’re ready to bust out and hit the road.  The time is now. #30daysofbiking and #30daysofgoodness Has Begun

Today is the official start of #30daysofbiking 2013….and for many it will be the beginning of a love for cycling. Not often does something come along for the sole purpose of creating goodness.  When @patiomensch and @zachamon, launched things on April 1, 2010 I knew right away that this was going to be something good. I...

Virtually Fixed

It’s been about three years since I last had a professional bike fit.  Although it was done virtually, it totally helped my performance and comfort on my road bike.  Best of all, my bicycle fit was what started a fantastic friendship with my (now) good friend and Cycling 360 co-host….Victor Jimenez.  If you weren’t...

A Surefire Way to Cure Vehicle vs Cyclist issues

Okay, so I’ve come up with the ultimate guaranteed way to cure the issues found on the road between cyclists and motorists.  Well, actually I’m kind of stealing the idea from my good friend Daniela who mentioned it recently in a comment. She posted this on Facebook in response to my recent “Plea to...

Kits, Kits, Kits

Jersey design is a tricky business… but it’s not THAT hard!  We are hoping to produce another LovingTheBike.com team kit this year after the success and interest we had in our 2012 edition, which you can see below modeled by The Boss. There has also been a #bikeschool jersey, which captured the imagination of the taco eating, noggin...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
