Thanks Darryl! I enjoyed writing it! I'm glad to hear that your son decided to get back in the saddle. It's true -- they just need to do things in their own time :)

This is a great post, Kirsten. I really appreciate you sharing it with us here at Loving the Bike. Last summer my Son learned to ride on two wheels. He did great and loved it until he had a little fall. Then he didn't want to touch the bike for a long time. It was hard for me because I was so excited that he had learned to ride and I wanted to have him keep practicing. But my Wife and I just let him decide when the time was right to get back on. About a month later he all of a sudden decided it was time and he started to ride again.

I like your approach and think you're doing an awesome job raising her.

We are struggling with this at home ourselves. Our 7 year old is so scared of her bike. We are trying gently to have her give it more opportunity this summer. We also showed her this video and discussed it with her. One thing I reminded her was that just four months ago she was terrified of the swimming pool and refused to put her head in the water. We let her adjust to the pool in her time and in her way and now she is swimming like a fish. I reminded her of this also. We have always pulled her in her chariot behind us in our bike rides and since hubby and I have both spilled a few times I wonder if that is some of her fear. Although we always brush ourselves off and get back up and try to laugh about it. Hopefully this will be her summer when she finally rides along side of us ;-)
