My Daughter Has Defected

Okay, so this is going to be the first…and last….running post to go on Loving the Bike.  We’re a cycling site, right? But I just had to post this fantastic piece written by my Daughter.

Kassi has decided that she would rather write about this subject because she is much more passionate about running. What’s a cycling Dad to do?  I know she’s going to make a great marathon runner one day and I wish her all the best in anything she decides to do.  So here it is…Kassi’s Running post.

Loving the Run

- by Kassi

Thirsty.  So, so thirsty.

Tired.  Oh, so tired.

My legs.

I can’t feel my legs.

The sun.  It’s shining so bright, so hot.

I have to stop, but promised to keep going.

I promised myself to never stop.

Left, right, left, right.

As each foot touches the ground,

I get even more tired.  But I keep going.

I tell myself, “almost there…you’re almost there”.

Even if I’m still so, so far away.

Just when I started to believe.

To really believe…

I slowed down.

A pain in my side.

It hurts to breathe.

Then I hear the sound of cheering.

Cheering my name.

Forgetting my cramp, I run.

Run as fast as I ever have before.

“Almost there, you’re almost there”.

And this time, I really was almost there.

Passing people as I go.

Crossing the finish line, and still going.

I realized that I am stronger than the pain.

I won the fight.

Next time I get a pain like that,

I will cheer for myself.

And Run, Run, Run.

Awesome!!!!!!!!!! This is why sports are so much more important than just for your physical health. Learning how to push yourself in a sport translates to great endurance and strength when the trials of life hit you. Loved the poem! Just loved it!
