Canadian….again

CanadianlogoIt’s only fitting that this post is coming out on Victoria Day.  My first time being in Canada for a National holiday in about six or seven years.

Better known as the “May Long”, it’s the un-official kick off to summer in this country of mine.  But for me it is so much more than the first long weekend of summer.  It’s my re-immerse into Canadian culture and all that comes along with a National celebration.

I’ve never been an overly proud Canadian, and often wondered why people would want to live in this cold climate when there are so many other places in the world.  I guess that’s why I’ve spent a good chunk of the past 15 years living outside of Canada.

But I’m back…..and believe it or not, I’m happy to be here.  What’s most interesting to me is how so many of the “Canadian” things that I used to shake my head at in embarrassment, are now so comforting and nice to be around.  The music, customs, and traditions that I spent so much time running away from are now pretty cool to be around.

It is funny how after all this time, nothing has really changed.  But I have, and it’s allowed me to be okay with it all.

I guess sometimes you have to run off and then return in order to appreciate what’s been around you the whole time.

It’s strange.  It’s bitter-sweet.  But in the end, it’s good to be Canadian…..again.  Happy Victoria Day, my fellow Canadians.  Happy #MakeitHappen Monday, my fellow World dwellers.

I am no longer sure where you are getting your info, but great topic. I must spend some time studying much more or working out more. Thanks for wonderful information I was in search of this information for my mission.|

Cool. I think what you’re experiencing is probably a fairly common part of getting older (not that you’re old, by a long shot!) I feel the same about my home state of North Carolina. I took it for granted while living there for so long, but now that I’ve been gone for the better part of five years, I am starting to appreciate more and more about it. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit to settle there again one day — should we ever hang up our nomadic hats and decide to settle down!

I am very very glad to see that you have accepted Canada and Courtney as an acceptable place to live.
Welcome back and keep getting to enjoy your new place day by day, week by week and year by year.
Victoria Day is a good start and next is Canada Day!

The saying is that you can never go home again, but perhaps you can. I’m glad you’re someplace that makes you happy, even if it is in the Arctic. ? Now you can get a fat bike for all the winter riding you’ll be doing.

Funny how age and separation grant you perspective and the things you wanted to get away from now contribute to making you feel back at home. I’ve never really experienced that having lived in ATX all my life. Must be a strange feeling. Hopefully a good one, though.

I like the way you put that, Paul….even though you’ve never actually felt it. Very strange feeling indeed, but I like that it feels good.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
