I Am Totally Out of Date

Out of DateThere was a time in my life…like even within the last 5 to 10 years….when I thought there is no way that I’d ever be out of the loop on music and technology.  Yeah, I would come across people who totally didn’t have a clue with what was hot in the music scene….and living in the stone ages when it came to electronics.  I even remember me saying that there is no way I’ll ever be one of these people.

No way.  It wasn’t possible.  I was hip, modern, and had my ear to the ground.

WTF happened?  Not only am I mostly clueless as to what bands and types of music is popular….I don’t really get why most of the stuff that is popular is that way.

I feel that the music shift happened quite suddenly, but the electronics thing has been slowly creeping up on me over the past few years.

I resisted getting a smart phone for like ever.  Even after I got one, I had an annoyance to it.  The other day, mine stopped taking a charge so for the past few days I’ve felt much lighter and free.  I know I won’t convince y’all of this one….but those mobile devices are the biggest distraction from your life.  Worse than drugs.

But I know I’ll get one again when we arrive on Vancouver Island this week.  I will do my best to keep it from being the huge distraction that I know it can be.  Listen to me….I must sound like some old dude on his rocking chair remembering back to the good old days when people actually focused on what was going on around them.  Yeah, I am totally out of date.

It is #MakeitHappen Monday, and for today I’ll leave it at this.  Do what you do.  Be aware of all you do.  Take time to reflect on what you’re doing.  Never be afraid to make adjustments and changes to keep you true to yourself.

You’re never out of date.  You’re just staying true to your date stamp.

Enjoy Your Ride

You better get one when you hit Vancouver. It will make our meet-ups that much easier. I arrive the following week! The brothers will be united… should we be warning Vancouverites that a whole lot of awesomeness is about to land onshore? See you soon my friend.

You know it Brother……Vancouver and the Island better strap themselves down for some ultimate awesomeness. Can’t wait to connect with you, Ian.

“But I know I’ll get one again when we arrive on Vancouver Island this week.” <– Is this where you are moving? I didn't see any big announcement post, but looks like you may have just slipped this in to see if we were paying attention. That is quite a change, but hey, it's still an island, right?! Just a very different climate to adapt to and cycle in. But what fun! Safe travels!

P.S. I still don't have a Smartphone (by conscious choice), but I do have two tablets (Windows and Android), so I guess I am not completely left behind the technology curve. Ha!

Yep, it’s true. I dropped some of the news in an earlier post….more details coming out soon.

You are right, being a blogger, you have to be connected to your audience. And there are some very effective ways of doing that. Working harder, working longer hours, or being a slave to your inbox are all addictions that do not deliver success.
Being connected to your audience has everything to do with asking intelligent questions and delivering on the answers.
Working longer hours is not the answer. Study after study suggests that every hour worked over 50 hours a week contributes to a decline in your overall productivity. It’s not about working more, its all about leverage.
Being a slave to your inbox is a symptom of being available 24/7. The most successful people schedule time in their day (read: put it in your calendar) to check email. Remember, your email inbox is a list of other people’s priorities, not yours.
I’ve been making a conscious effort to use my smart phone to consume information. So I try and use it as little as possible. I then use my computer to create. Connect with my audience and create a product that serves them.
Technology is here to help us attain our goals. Technology is not our goal. It is a tool to share what we have learned in a meaningful way.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
