Live Slow…..Bike Fast

I saw someone with a touristy t-shirt sold here in Grenada that said: “Live Slow”.  It totally caught my attention because as usual I’m in need of constant reminders to de-stress and love life.

As is the case with many people, I often find myself needing to rush around and get as many things done as possible….yeah, I haven’t quite adopted that Caribbean attitude yet.  But seeing those words, Live Slow, helped me cool out at least for the moment.

This saying is not unique and you’ll often find it on a shirt telling you to Live Slow, Sail Fast….but I’m re-quoting it for us cyclists:

Live Slow….Bike Fast

Yeah, we like going fast on the bike and that is super awesome….but I’m making it my goal to start living a whole lot slower when I’m off it.  Maybe one of Headwater’s cycling holidays in France would help me achieve this goal?  Yeah, that is still on my cycling wish list.

Being immersed in Caribbean culture of Grenada should make it a little easier for me, and I invite you to come along on my slow living journey and fast riding training.

As we say at the start of each week…..have a Make it Happen Monday.  But as you do so, be sure to also live slow and focus on what matters most as well.

Enjoy Your Ride

Yes sir…I’m sure you still have it in your Caribbean blood. For such a busy guy, you seem to also know how to live slowly as well.

We all are guilty of it. It’s difficult to let go and say your taking it easy, sometimes when you do, you’re belittled for it if you are normally a busy body. Balance is crucial, this is what I am learning slowly but painfully!

Let’s work on this together, Nicholas. Now that we have met and will be spending time together we can be accountability partners on this one. Thanks.

Yes that is a very nice reminder. I’m going to slow things down today and keep good focus on what’s most important. I like how you said to focus on what matters most.

Thanks Jen. Yes, focusing out time on what matters most is a great way to live more slowly.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
