Make it Happen Monday: Money Man
We’re bred in a world that evolves around the economic control known as the dollar. Because of this, far too many of us chase after it all our lives…..all the while missing out on some really great moments in life. We see the pursuit of money as a necessity in order to obtain that lifestyle we’ve always dreamed of….when in fact it is actually right there in front of you.
There’s a great commercial that used to run for Citi bank. This bank set itself apart by reminding people that there’s more to life than money. Their ad that I particularly liked the best shows a bunch of kids dressed up like super-heroes and playing in a backyard. Then these words flash across the screen….”No kid ever grew up wanting to be Money Man”. I love it. All their ads really brought home the fact that it doesn’t take a lot of money to live a really great life.
There is nothing at all wrong with being rich or trying hard to obtain great wealth. But I do think it is wise to never lose track of life in the process. Happiness cannot be bought…..The greatest pleasures in life really are free.
”Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.”
Benjamin Franklin
I have a feeling that most of you reading this didn’t want to be Money Man (or Woman) growing up…..y’all wanted to be Super Cycle, right? If you’re cool with sharing, let us know what (or who) you wanted to be when you were younger.
