Positive Junk Mail

If you’re like me, you get way too much junk mail each and every day.  Well you could classify blog posts as junk mail I guess, but hopefully you get more out of it then garbage.

Best-Day-Ever-Chalkboard-Wallpaper-TidyMomI’m trusting that every one of you is having the best day ever, but in case you’re not, just think about a few of the following things:

1.  Today you are experiencing the best day of your life.  Why not think that way before it even starts to happen?  If you think it is the best day ever, it may just turn out that way.

2.  Sit there for a moment and give thanks for at least one thing you have experienced this week.  Doing this is not something that is limited to Thanksgiving Day…it should be a regular occurrence.

3.  Tell someone who has done something you appreciate today (or in the past) that you really would like to thank them for doing what they have done.  Be honest, be sincere, be unconditional.

4.  Enjoy yourself today.  No matter what is happening.  No matter what kind of stress you are experiencing.  No matter how excited or how bored you are today.  Enjoy it.  Don’t question it.  Don’t be stressed at it.  Just enjoy it for what it is.

5.  Do something immature today.  Yeah.  Something so freaking off the wall that even the thought of it embarrasses you.  Think of some of the crazy things you did as a kid…and then do something even crazier.

6.  Be honest today.  I mean really honest.  If someone is wearing something that you think looks ugly and they ask you what you think of it…tell them the truth.  Be nice about it, but be honest.  If you see someone you haven’t seen in a while today and you say to them that we should go for coffee or something sometime…mean it.  Don’t say it if you know you will never act on those words.  Do what you say you will do.

7.  Learn something.  Whether it comes from a book, a friend, or from watching two children playing in the park.  Learn from it.

8.  I could go on and on.  Basically, just enjoy your day.  Don’t get caught up in the rat race today.  Go at your own speed.  Do something that makes you feel good.  Even spoil yourself a little if you are able to do so.  Be nice to everyone you meet today.  Smile.  Say thank you.  Say you’re welcome.  Tell someone you love them.  Most of all…be goofy, happy, and have a lot of fun.

I hope you enjoy this beautiful sunny day.

Excellent post Darryl…you’re talking about living life vividly, being authentic and allowing yourself to be vulnerable, I dig it! I know how much my life has changed since I have taken on most of what you said. Last week I am in downtown Denver, it’s 12:40 and very busy as you’d expect during lunch in a large city. I’m making my way to the elevators in one of the office towers for a meeting on the 48th floor and I reach a set of closing doors just in time. There are eight or nine other passengers and I turn and say, “I’d like to thank you all for being on time to this meeting”. They all look at me with this blank stare of WTF…I continue, “Had this been an actual meeting an email and paper memo would have been distributed for scheduling purposes”. A few smiles appear, some eyes roll and I say, “Thank you for your attention and may your afternoon be TEN times more exciting than your morning, in a good way,” then I turned around. I was third to the last off the elevator, but each person on that lift said “have a nice day” or “thanks” as we parted ways.

Man that felt good and it’s not the first time I’ve done that exact thing in other elevators. I gave up concerning myself with what others might think about me and just started being me, someone who is genuinely excited to be alive. I buried that deep inside for a lot of years and it wasn’t until I started doing the things you wrote about here did I uncover that joy. Darryl, thank you for being such an inspiration to not only me, but countless others.

As Ian would say, “Keep the rubber side down”!

That is so awesome, Joel….thanks for sharing your story. Yeah, life is like 1000% better when we do things like that during the day. I hope even one of those people in the elevator decided to do the same sort of thing after they crossed paths with you.

    Thanks Darryl.
I hope everyone who reads this can incorporate at least one of these points into their day. Mine will be easy; I am currently volunteering with a crew building MTB trails through Dead Horse Point State Park in Moab. Yea, doesn’t get much better for me…
Remind me of this list in couple months when Im back to work ok-

No kidding, it doesn’t get much better at all. That’s awesome that you’re volunteering over there….thanks for the picture. You seem like the kind of guy who doesn’t really require reminding…..all the best, Daniel.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
