Make it Happen Monday: What Gets You Out of Bed?

I’ve interacted with a lot of our Loving the Bike readers and have a good idea of what motivates people to get on a bike….but what about motivation for life?

What inspires you?  What motivates you?  Where do you get your passion?  All these things are related and it is small and large doses of these things that piece your day together.  It is exactly these things that create the life that you live.  We all find inspiration and, in turn, are motivated to act from a variety of different things.  Each one of us finds it in different places, but the key is that we find it.  Once you’ve found it, it is the passion that keeps you going.

Every day starts off with these key ingredients.  You wake up, and from there, what is it that gets you out of bed and on your way?  Think about it.  Well, the duties and responsibilities that lie ahead of you are probably what does it, right?  We are all like that, and without being faithful to our duties, nothing in this world would get done.  But what if your inspiration to get your day going was the beauty of the environment that lies outside your bedroom walls?  What if you motivation was the thought of knowing you are going to make someone’s day better today?  What if the passion that drives you out of bed is your total zest for live?  I think we all search for the superficial things to get us through our day, and we somehow miss all the natural beauty and wonderment that surrounds us in our world.

Getting to Know…..people, places, the environment, yourself.  That is the inspiration, motivation, and passion that drives us, or at least it should.  Today I challenge each of you to go deeper.  I challenge you to get to know someone today on a more personal level.  I challenge you to investigate and learn more about something in our world.  I somehow have a feeling that if you accept this challenge, what you will find is inspiration.

“Positive education, acts of kindness, and gratitude are something that feel so great when it is shared with others…..What’s even better, is witnessing this in the world around us.” – Darryl

This is my life’s work.  I have found total bliss in meeting people, getting to know them and the world we share.  Each day I vow to make a total stranger laugh out loud and to do something to make the world a little better place than when I woke up.  If it’s just picking up some trash and putting it into a can or speaking about inspiration, motivation and action I work at this every day.  I am an old fashion romantic at heart, and I believe in all the good in the word and it’s people.  That is the true power of this challenge….BRAVO!

Thanks Joel.   From what I have learned about you so far, you are definitely a person who puts this into action every day.  What a fantastic influence you are, and I’m happy to be connected with you.

I see a lot of passion in this post. It is well-articulated and something that rings true in society. It is also very convicting, and for hours, I’ve been thinking about how best to comment.

More often than not, I am movitvated by the duty and responsibility you discussed. As a working mama of two little ones, I don’t get a whole lot of time to do much beyond that duty and responsibility (confession: I’m pretty happy with all the duty and responsibilty most of the time). But that’s why I ride and run. It’s the “Me Time” every woman absolutely needs in her day.

Lately however, I feel myself unearthing a woman I didn’t know existed. I’m rediscovering myself in a new way, and wow, is it a fascinating adventure. My mindset is in the process of shifting (has already shifted?) and I’m learning exactly what you described: the beauty found in my environment, people and life. And I am drawn to it.

It is making me a better person. And to swing this back to riding a bike, this rediscovery has absolutely motivated me to ride more.

    Nice post Darryl,
I never have problems with motivation. I have so many reasons to be motivated:
I want to be healthy so that I can spend a long time with my wife and not be a burden on anyone for as long as possible.
I want to be a good role model for my kids and for the people I interact with.
I am a better person when I feel better about myself. When I take care of myself I am better able to take care of others.
I like how it makes me feel to help other people and I try to make that a part of my life.
The concept of paying it forward is fundamental to me. I believe that the more good that you do the better the chances are that good will be there for you when you need it. And we all need help at times.
    Keep the good stuff coming.

most days getting out of bed is either habit or pure force of will…but once I’m out — watch out world!

This post speaks to me on all kinds of levels and I love it. I accept this challenge!

It speaks to you, because you are living it my friend.  I am pretty sure you accept this challenge each and every day….and the world is a better place because of it.

Love the post. We do get to busy with our daily routines that we forget about what’s really important, and that for me is my family. My husband often says to our daughter and me “we are staying together as a group.” We are a small group of only three, but together we are an army.

I love it.  You are a very wise family….and with an attitude like that, you are going to remain one very strong Army.

Great message Darryl! We get wrapped up in ourselves & the business that we often forget why we’re even doing things. Living consciously and making small efforts to do for others changes things for the better every time.

Thanks Dave.  It’s pretty easy with our North American lifestyle to get caught up in it all.  I was hoping with today’s post, that I might get everyone to shift their thinking a little.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
