I Am a Cyclist of the World
I recently posted about how I (as a Canadian living in the United States) celebrated the Fourth of July on and off my bike. Along with having a great Independence Day ride, our Family spent some time at the local celebration going on in our neighborhood. Most of the people around here know that we’re from Canada so I was asked many times about how (and why) we were celebrating this special American holiday.
I hadn’t really thought about it before, but the response that came out of my mouth each time was, “I’m a child of the World”. Sure, I’m a Canadian and am proud to be a part of that Country….but I honestly feel more like a citizen of the World than any one Country.
When we lived in St. Kitts, I totally soaked up its culture, traditions, and patriotism. Now that we’re here in the United States, I’m on board and happy to honor the way of life here as well….and as a bonus we also get to acknowledge and celebrate any Canadian holidays as well.
The Olympics just wrapped up once again earlier this month and each time they occur a strange, but interesting, notion comes to me. I see how it brings a Country together and as everyone cheers on their Country, there is a solid bond of togetherness and peace. I find these “united” vibes to be my favorite thing about the Olympics, but it gets me to thinking about how cool it would be if the World were competing against another planet or something else. Yeah, my thought process can be a little whack at times.
But if there were such a competition, man it sure would be cool to see the entire World coming together and be part of the same team. If ever there was a way to create World Peace…..this would be it.
Not only am I a child of the World, I’m a cyclist of the World….and so proud to be a part of our Worldwide community of Cyclists. Like they say over at #bikeschool: World Cyclists Unite. We’re all connected by a love for cycling, and that commonality brings us closer and creates bonds that bridge thousands of miles.
No matter where you’re located, let’s make it happen….together.
1 Love
