Make it Happen Monday: Operation Opportunity

At one point in my life I was faced with a decision, and the wisdom that was provided to me was “Always Walk in the Direction of Opportunity”.  That statement has stuck with me these past 12 or so years and it’s been the reasoning behind my move to St. Kitts, my first move to Austin, and many other big decisions along the way.

But what do you do when the opportunity you are looking for has yet to present itself?  Creating your own opportunities might be one way to go about….and a very good option at that.  But what I have decided to do is launch, “Operation Opportunity”.  You see, I’m not really sure what it is that I’m looking for.  Adventure: Yes, Family Connection: Yes, Bikes: Yes…..but how to combine those things is still uncertain.

Operation Opportunity is a beautiful and simple little idea.  I want everyone I am connected with to list off an opportunity they have available for someone else.  It could be a unique job, available accommodations, travel options, events, or anything else.  I know we all have opportunities that we can give to others….so this is your chance to “Pay it Forward”.  This is not a typical job site, travel site, or anything like that which you’ve seen before.  This one is all about super fantastic and one of a king opportunities that you’d never come across unless you knew the right people.  You all ARE the right people, and I want for you to share your opportunities.

I’m not sure where this will go, but the upside is huge.  Should it catch on and the should the magic happen….this could skyrocket into its own identity and website.  Best of all, it will allow thousands of people to “walk in the direction” of something incredible.

Okay, so to kick things off I want you to share all your amazing opportunities in any of the following ways:

  • Post your opportunity in the comments section below
  • Tweet out your opportunities using the hashtag: #OperationOpportunity
  • Use Facebook, G+, Twitter, Linkedin, and everything else to promote this idea so that all your friends can get involved and share their opportunities

That’s it.  Let’s see if we can create something great together.  Let’s make some amazing opportunities happen.

Enjoy Your Ride

Also, wanted to put this out there. I can give an aspiring adventure writer an internship working for Beyond Limits Magazine. This is an unpaid position but the exposure and the experience is awesome.

Darryl, we live 10 minutes from the USNA. If there are parents who have a child at the academy, I will give them my email and phone number in case there is anything their son or daughter ever needs. I can be the taxi driver, the dinner maker or just the place for them to put up their feet and get away. We are sending a son to West Point this fall so we understand the stresses they are under.

Darryl, I will see what I can come up with? I know that with what has happened to my kids over the last week has really been devistation, however there have been so many nice people to offer help in man power, money tools, etc. That I would like to find a way to pay forward to the communitites in our area. I will come up with something, just now sure what to do yet, because we have been so busy taking care of the kids. I will say that I’m so dang tired and so dang Happy to still have my kids and grand-kids. Thank You God!! #OperationOpportunity

I dig this idea Big Kahuna.  I want to share a V.I.P. pass for up to 6 group training classes at About Time Fitness in Englewood, CO.  This is a $60 value we sell for $18, but through Operation Opportunity it is free.  Just send an email mentioning Operation Opportunity to me, [email protected], and I’ll respond a pdf file to print and bring to training class.

If you live in the Denver metro area and feel like you have to drag yourself to the gym, or are looking for something a little different, then this is your opportunity.

    In good health…

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
