6 Benefits of a Single Speed Bike

A single-speed bike is just as it sounds: a bike that goes at one speed and doesn’t have
complex gears. Other bikes have multiple gear ratios, whereas a single-speed bike only has
one. That might sound like a bike with limited functions, but it provides a range of benefits –
here are six of them.
1: They Are Cost Effective
Due to the fewer components involved in a single-speed bike, the price tag is lower than
other types of bicycles. That’s perfect for those with a limited budget, as it makes purchasing
a high-quality, durable bike possible.
If you’re interested in this kind of bike, you can take a look at a number of single-speed bike
specialists, such as steedbikes.com, which offers a wide range for various budgets and
lifestyles.

2: They Are Light
Many great bikes come with one downfall: a hefty weight. It makes carrying them up and
down steps much harder. Not to mention how much power they require to get moving.
A single-speed bike is a perfect option for those tired of heavy bicycles. It’s very lightweight;
you can carry it around easily, and it requires only slight motion to gain a high speed. They
are particularly effective for those living in tall apartments!
Their portability and light weight also make them great for people who like to take their bikes
on a train in the city or on vacation with them, for example.

3: Maintenance Is Simple
All bikes require maintenance. You must ensure the chains, lights, reflectors, gear clusters,
and handlebars are all in excellent working condition for a safe and smooth ride.
Despite its importance, bike maintenance is still a chore. That’s why a single-speed bike is
such a good purchase. While some maintenance is still required, it doesn’t need nearly as
much as a traditional bike due to the fewer components.

4: Plenty of Options
While it might only have one gear, the single-speed bike still comes in various options. So,
whether you need a large luggage rack or high-quality lighting for nighttime cycling, these
bikes provide precisely what you need.

5: They Keep You in Great Shape
A single-speed bike stays at one speed, allowing for a comfortable and scenic ride. Still, that
ride requires the power of your legs, which means you slowly build up your endurance and
fitness levels when you ride. That, in turn, means you get to stay in great shape.
After a few months of riding consistently, you’ll see a notable difference in the mirror. Plus,
you’ll notice that you do not feel quite as tired after running up a flight of stairs.

6: They Are Great for Beginners

Due to all the other benefits listed here, including the cost-effectiveness, lightweight, and
simple mechanics, the single-speed bike makes a great purchase for first-time cyclists. It
means that they can enjoy a bike that provides durability as well as simplicity.
As you can see, a single-speed bike provides many benefits to both seasoned and new
cyclists. Whether you want to dive into the world of cycling or you want a bike that’s easier to
maintain and carry, a single-speed bike makes an excellent purchase.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
