Make it Happen Monday: Definition of Success

Do you have a personal definition for success? You know, a way of measuring if you’re achieving all you strive to be in life or if you’re making the kind of impact you want to leave on our World. There are countless definitions for success out there, but my favorite has always been this...

Make it Happen Monday: Name Your Price

My good friend Ian is one of the most “Make it Happen” kind of guys I know.  He’s been an inspiration and source of motivation for me countless times….both on and off the bike.  Yeah, he’s the real deal.  Ian leads by example and if there was ever a person to provide you with...

Make it Happen Monday: Create Your Own Culture 2.0

In last week’s Make it Happen Monday post, I talked about one of my life hero’s, Morrie Schwartz, and his quote about Creating Your Own Culture.  As a follow-up to that post, I wanted to dive a little deeper into this topic and talk a little more about following your own star. Consider the...

Make it Happen Monday: Create Your Own Culture

One of my favorite quotes of all time is: “The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves.  And you have to be strong enough to say, if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it.  Create your own.” This is a quote by a man named Morrie Schwartz, a retired college...

Make it Happen Monday: If I Knew…

If I knew I had exactly 25 years to live, I’d be intent on living them well. I’m sure many times during those years, I would lose sight of time. And slip into a regular routine. If I knew I had 10 years to live, initially I would be quite concerned. I would make...

Make it Happen Monday: The Tambo Way

I really do believe that the more you worry about something, the more problems you encounter.  Although I try to fight it, I was born a worrier and struggle with letting it go each and every day.  But the more life I live, the more I realize that if you do not let worry...

Make it Happen Monday: Fight For World Happiness

In a world full of happy people, I’d never have a concern. Never wondering how that child feels. Never wondering why there isn’t more love. A friend would help a friend.  A stranger would help a stranger. Every person would show kindness to the person sitting...

Make it Happen Monday: Butterfly Effect

I don’t mean to get all scientific on you here….but bare with me for a second.  The butterfly effect is a phrase which encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory.  Small variations of the initial condition of a nonlinear dynamical system may produce large variations in the...

Make it Happen Monday: Life is a Poem

Life is a Poem…Let it Flow out of You Whatever it is that gets me to the dawning of the day. It’s totally unique, because I’m different in my own special way. You may not understand it, and choose to disagree. But you are not going to change me, this is who I’m going...

Make it Happen Monday: Money Man

We’re bred in a world that evolves around the economic control known as the dollar.  Because of this, far too many of us chase after it all our lives…..all the while missing out on some really great moments in life.  We see the pursuit of money as a necessity in order to obtain that...

Make it Happen Monday: Keep Playing the Game

Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.  That line comes from a movie called “Cinderella Story”, which my Daughter Kassi used to watch all the time.  It’s been a while since she watched it, but that quote has always sort of just stuck with me. Sometimes our fears...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
