I’ve always been a lover of music and totally enjoy being able to get some wisdom out of what I’m listening to.  The new CD by Jason Mraz has a bunch of positive music on it, but one song in particular always seems to ground me and re-remind me of what I should...

Wanted: A Life of Bikes and Family Time

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.  There are really only two things that matter to me and that is Family and Bikes….the rest is just stuff.  But I’m not sure if people realize how serious I am about this.  It sounds like a pretty simple thing to achieve, but I’m finding...

Pedal Away the Funk

On and off for the past month (maybe more) I’ve been in a bit of a funk, and if it wasn’t for the bike I’m not sure what sort of state I would currently be in.  It’s all be based on some self-induced stress, and the resulting condition has been a clouded mind and...

He Who Hesitates is a Damned Fool

I’d have to try really hard to find some sort of connection between the legendary actress, May West, and cycling….but because I love this quote of hers so much I’m going to do my best to make it happen.  (Oh, and I’ve decided to take off the “Make it Happen Monday” part off the...

Make it Happen Monday: B Strong

Can cycling save your life?  I don’t have to go any further than my friend Bethel Strong to answer that one.  Through his love for the bike, he’s been able to astound even his doctor who couldn’t believe the results he’s achieved through cycling. The absolute best part about having a blog and being...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
