He headed off on the Appalachian Trail.  A backpack behind him……5 months of daily hiking ahead of him.  It wasn’t necessarily the challenge of the hike that brought him here.  It was the notion of finding himself and walking out of the trail knowing that he would be back to his...

There’s a lot of words to describe the life that my Wife and I live.  One that definitely makes the list is Reckless.  Now that may not be something most people strive for… believe me, it’s not always the easiest way to live.  We’ve done a lot of crazy things….but that isn’t what makes...

Make it Happen Monday: Do it Like the Ninetysomethings

I’ve seen a lot of people in their 20’s who’ve basically given up on their bodies.  They have passed the point where they didn’t have to do any work in order to keep a good looking and pain free body.  But when it became something they had to work at…they gave up on it....

Make It Happen Monday: Cure Cancer

April 11, 2011

I wish I could just tell the world to stop.  Grab hold of the Government and tell them to wise up and focus on humanity.  Tap into the bank accounts of the overly wealthy and use it for something important.  Find out if the pharmaceutical world really does have the cure. Is it just...

Make it Happen Monday: The Rituals of Radiant Living

About ten and a half years ago, I made a presentation at a business breakfast meeting.  This was no ordinary speech…I addressed a bunch of businessy type people wearing my totally “non-businessy” bright yellow pants, and delivered the presentation while sitting up on the speaking podium.  This day stands out to me, not because...

Make it Happen Monday: Arcanum pāx

There is a little known island about half way between the Caribbean islands and the coast of Africa.  Its name is Arcanum pāx, meaning “the secret peace”.  On this island, the only means of transportation is by bicycle.  The only relationships they know are love and peace.  And the only thoughts that flow are...

Get S.T.O.K.E.D. For Your Cycling Goals

Like everything in life, it’s a lot simpler to achieve something when you set a goal for yourself and go after it.  I mentioned a simple formula for goal achievement in last week’s “Make It Happen Mondays” post: Create a goal, Get excited about it, and Make it Happen….and this week I’m here to...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
