Gypsy Soul Freedom

I’ve been called a Gypsy before.  A few times.  Maybe that’s what I am.  I know I like the comforts of being in the same place.  But the thought of something new is equally appealing. If it wasn’t for my “Gypsy” heart, I would not be where I am now.  Living my dream life...

Nothing earth shattering; just a few things I’d like to do. However, I’ve never published my goals before, and I’m thinking this may be...

Loving the BITE: How to Achieve Healthy Eating Success this Year

I’ve often said that the cheapest way to lighten your ride is to lose a pound (for those cyclists who need and/or want to).  In fact, you can spend hundreds of dollars shedding a few hundred grams with a new component, or you can shed 450 grams for free by losing a pound.  With...

2014: The Do Good Year

Prior to 2012, I declared it the Year of the Rockstar.  I deemed 2013 as the Lucky Year.  For 2014, I’m calling it the Do Good Year. One of the best things that happened to me in 2013 was meeting Rob Greenfield and becoming friends with him.  He’s become a huge inspiration and I’m...

Riding Year-Round

I’ve talked in the past about how to deal with cycling in the rain, which is something I ride in often in Penang. Now that I’m in the states for the next month, I need to brush up on my winter riding, too. Here are some of my tips for tackling the mostly cold...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
