Faith….on and off the bike

Sometimes you just have to throw it all out there to the Universe and have faith that everything will work out fine….both on and off the bike. Have you ever ridden your bike into traffic?  You know, riding towards oncoming traffic instead of having it come from behind you.  I don’t recommend you doing...

A Soft Touch over Muscle

I’ve learned the hard way that bicycle repair takes a whole lot of finesse, and not too much muscle.  Yeah, you know what I’m talking about right? Tightening a carbon seat post, adjusting shifter cables, and pretty much everything else on a bicycle requires a soft touch or else you just might do more...

2013: The #LuckyYear

At the beginning of 2012 I declared it to be the Year of the Rockstar.  I told you all to be bold, put a swagger in your step, and make it the year where you make big things happen…..Rockstar Style. Well, it’s one year later and before going out there to ring in another...

My Wish For You

Yep, tomorrow is the big one.  A special day where the world stops to celebrate peace, love, and a bounty full of Christmas presents. Our Loving the Bike family has had its share of present overload in the past, but we’ve really toned things down the past couple years.  This year we’ve totally minimized...

Live Slow…..Bike Fast

I saw someone with a touristy t-shirt sold here in Grenada that said: “Live Slow”.  It totally caught my attention because as usual I’m in need of constant reminders to de-stress and love life. As is the case with many people, I often find myself needing to rush around and get as many things...

Magic Found in an Early Morning Ride

Wonder – To believe in life is to see the beauty and wonder around us, and to hold close the magic of it all. As I sit here this morning I feel as if my day has been complete.  For some reason, I was totally awake at 5AM but laid in bed just a...

What Inspires You?

I think it’s safe to say that inspiration and motivation are basically synonymous words that work together to help each and every one of us make it happen. If this is so, what are the ingredients that go into the whole inspiration/motivation melting pot?  Hold on a minute, don’t answer that quite yet. Each...

My Secret Weapon: No Cell Phone

Let me tell you about my secret weapon for being in the moment…it’s as simple as not owing a smart phone. It may come as a shock to many of you out there, but our family owns nothing more than a cheap pay as you go cell phone.  We keep it in the vehicle...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
