Every Water Bottle Tells a Story

How deep is the connection to your cycling water bottle?  I don’t know about you, but I seem to have a story or something that comes to mind for every single one of my bottles. Other than the bike itself, the bottle is generally one thing that always comes along with you on a...

Viva Streets and Ciclovia

The word “Ciclovia” is a Spanish term for “Bike Parkway”, but I’m calling it a bicycle celebration.  Back in the early 80′s, the people of Bogata, Columbia created the idea of Ciclovia as a way to battle against the traffic congestion found in their city and to this date they still hold a 70...

I think it’s safe to say that Austin, Texas is one of the top Tech cities in North America….It’s also safe to say that it’s also one of the top cycling cities as well. Because of this, it’s no surprise that CycleTracks is using this city to collect bicycle data through their Smartphone application...

For the Love of the Bike

Just got home from day two of NAHBS and the best way for me to sum things up is that today was a gathering of people who are in it “For the Love of the Bike”.  There really isn’t any other way to describe it.  So many different kinds of cyclists, people, and backgrounds….all coming...

Austin Traffic

Just on the heels of “The Old Give and Take”, here I am talking about traffic in the city of Austin. Yes, I did give up some quiet, low traffic roads for what we have here in Austin….but the fact that I’m right now riding in October with warm temperatures is enough to make...

Welcome to Austin

If you didn’t already know….I’m in Austin right now.  Yeah, Austin, Texas – The state capital that prides itself on being far from ordinary. In fact, they celebrate being “weird.” Austin is a hot spot for creativity and embraces its community of musicians, artists, entrepreneurs and progressive thinkers. It’s home to a singer named Willie, a...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
