Let’s Talk About Must Have Cycling Equipment

When it comes to cycling equipment, what do you feel is the bare minimum that every cyclist must have?  With all that is available out there, it’s so easy to get caught up and over-stock yourself with things you don’t end up using…..or not benefiting from.  So where do you draw the line? It’s...

Who Wants Saddle Sores?

May 14, 2012
By

Getting or having saddle sores is probably something us cyclists would like to keep to ourselves, right?  I don’t get them very often, but here I am publicly announcing that I just so happen to have a couple right now and they sure did make today’s ride a little uncomfortable.  Yeah, it’s a nasty...

Make it Happen Monday: Comparison to Your Best Self

May 14, 2012

I’m definitely of the opinion that we should strive to be the best person that we can possibly be….but sometimes making comparisons to your “best self” can have negative results. When I was around 14 years old, I spent a lot of my summers playing golf.  My friends and I would bike over to...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
