I Am a Cyclist of the World

I recently posted about how I (as a Canadian living in the United States) celebrated the Fourth of July on and off my bike.  Along with having a great Independence Day ride, our Family spent some time at the local celebration going on in our neighborhood.  Most of the people around here know that...

He Who Hesitates is a Damned Fool

I’d have to try really hard to find some sort of connection between the legendary actress, May West, and cycling….but because I love this quote of hers so much I’m going to do my best to make it happen.  (Oh, and I’ve decided to take off the “Make it Happen Monday” part off the...

Make it Happen Monday: Keep Playing the Game

Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.  That line comes from a movie called “Cinderella Story”, which my Daughter Kassi used to watch all the time.  It’s been a while since she watched it, but that quote has always sort of just stuck with me. Sometimes our fears...

Make it Happen Monday: Self-Discovery over Self-Improvement

It’s been quite a while now that we’ve been pumping out these Make it Happen Monday posts over here at Loving the Bike…..and what I’ve always thought I was doing was sending out positive, inspiring pieces of writing mixed in with my own thoughts of the world.  Basically I’ve been pumping out self-improvement messages...

Make it Happen Monday: Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop

Other than my Family, cycling is about the only thing I’ve remained committed to over the years.  Since I took up road cycling 8 years ago, I’ve had a Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop attitude to pretty much everything about it. On an overall level, cycling has become a huge part of my life and...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean ”lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
