December is definitely here and I don’t know about the rest of you, but it’s bloomin’ cold over her in the good old U of K. When I checked out LovingTheBike.com yesterday morning (as I do every day, like a good ‘employee’) I was filled with a sense of wonder tinged with a massive...

Last’s week’s Classmate Happenings post was very well received so we thought we’d follow it up with another week of happenings from our fellow classmates at #bikeschool.  Not only is #bikeschool the coolest hour on Twitter and takes place each Thursday night at 9PM EST….it’s also a great hashtag to follow on a daily...

#bikeschool: Le Tour 101

After last week’s Alternative Guide to the runners and riders of this year’s Tour I got lots of requests to continue the advice across a range of other Tour related areas. I will attempt to make the next two editions of the #bikeschool blog a little more factual than the last, however I cannot...

#bikeschool: EVOLution

For many months now we have gathered as seething masses in the musty halls of a simple but wonderful night class known only as #bikeschool. Some people pop in to wind down after a day at work, others set their biological clocks to tingle once a week at 9PM EST… and others well, others...

How Do You Measure a Year?

As the world reflects on the year that was, I wanted to take a moment and sum up 2010 Loving the Bike style. 2 websites launched 1,479 twitter friends 1 direct tweet from @lancearmstrong 247 Facebook friends (yeah, I’m going to have to spend more time on there in 2011) 1 awesome bike fit...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
