Bicycles Highlighted on New Travel Channel Series

Ryan van Duzer Travel ChannelBicycles have not been given enough screen time on television programs, but thanks to Ryan van Duzer that’s about to change.

You’ve seen me post about Ryan several times here on Loving the Bike.  Over the past few years he’s become a good friend and I consider him one of the greatest bicycle advocacy people on the planet.  This dude has bicycles in his veins.

His latest project is a bicycle adventure series being aired on the Travel Channel.  It’s the first bike touring travel series produced by a major network, so you can imagine how excited he is….and me too.  Having bikes exposed to more people is always a good thing.

Ryan has put together 5 episodes so far, and every one of them was produced entirely on bikes…..even the camera guy rode a bike.  Pretty awesome, huh?  Well, the more views these episodes get, the more likely that the Travel Channel will give the thumbs up to more.  So please help spread the news, and let’s all help bikes take over television programming.

Here’s a look at one episode, and to check out the rest please visit: http://www.travelchannel.com/video/bike-tour-of-california-wineries.

Enjoy Your Ride

I loved watching the 5 episodes, they have made it so I have added a trip to my bucket list for sure!! The only thing I would have liked is links to maps of the trip so we could see where he went specifically, I have mapped them myself but seeing some of the off shoots he went on like the creek and the Redwood Forest are very hard to figure out where he was. I would love to bike and walk in the forest area that he did for sure. I cannot wait for him to make more episodes!

While I agree that the bicycle hasn’t had enough actual programing centered around it, one thing I have
noticed in the past several years is how many bicycles I see in TV commercials.
From every kind of pharmaceutical ad to cookie commercials. They may not be right
in the forefront but if you start watching ads these days you will see cyclists
riding by in the back ground, down the sidewalk, or a rack full of bikes
outside the window of a shop, etc. TV advertising is a multi-billion dollar a
year industry that’s spends a buttload of that studying what people want to see
and what makes them feel happy, comfortable with and excepting of whatever is being presented to
them. The simple magic of riding a bike is not lost on them either-

While Im not a fan of
television in general I think this trend is pretty cool.

Thanks Daniel….it definitely is great to see bikes taking over in more areas. Yeah, they’ve been finding their way into more TV, Movies, Videos, Commercials, and so much more. Viva la Bike.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
