Biking Babes

Just so you know….yes, I did get the thumbs up from my wife to write this blog.  She’s the best.

c/o A Continuous Lean

Maybe it’s my love for the sport, or maybe it’s just the plain hard truth that cycling women can be so dang sexy.  Put a girl on a cruiser, road bike, or any type of bike and all of a sudden they are just that much hotter.  It’s true, right?  I know I’m not alone on this one.  All you guys have got to agree….and for you ladies, tell me that you don’t feel sexy when you’re on your bike.

I absolutely mean no disrespect on this at all and I hope I don’t come across as sexist or anything.  What I’m trying to get across is quite the contrary.  I’m simply pointing out the beauty of a girl and her bike.

It’s not only the lycra and tight fitting outfits, there’s just something about the free flowing look of a girl on her bike that is so beautiful to look at.  Whether it’s the style and strength of the competitive road cyclists, the beauty and grace of the cruisers and commuters, or simply a girl out enjoying a ride on her bike…..they all possess an aura of attraction that just can’t be beat.

One of my fellow cycling bloggers, Crankee , has captured female cycling beauty in a calendar that he’s put together with the Japanese girls he cycles with.  After getting to know him a little via the blogs, he sent me one in the mail and I just got it last week. Some of the shots may be a little risque, but it’s cool that he’s showcased some of Japan’s finest female cyclists.  (More details on the calendar can be found here).

So okay guys….am I right?  What are your thoughts on cycling girls?  How about you, Ladies?  Hey you Female Cycling Bloggers….it’s your turn to let us know how you feel about us “Cycling Guys”.

I ride a road bike and I blog. When I’m on my bicycle, I’m lost in thought. While dodging the potholes, broken green bottles, and the rest of the grit the asphalt has to offer, I’m thinking metaphorically about bicycling and life, writing and bicycling, and writing about life. Now I get to add sexy to the mix! MAHALO! HUGS! You’ve made my day!

Here is my bicycle babe picture. It’s from about 2 hours after we finished our first 10k road race (sub 60 min!). I’m still wearing my running stuff, but my friend Pam is all dressed up and ready to see Sex & the City 2 with her lady friends. I’m giving her a ride downtown on the pegs I have installed on my hello kitty beach cruiser for just this purpose, and her heals are in the basket. Functional!

Skip Hop Studio Diaper Tote Tote is awesome. So a lot of wallets – and not really these modest, useless pockets, either. Almost all of the actual pockets are a fantastic size and truly help maintain everything organized. The handles are a fantastic length and fit nicely more than the shoulder; the handle straps additionally remain place on my own arm, which is actually vital when you are having a child. The handbag appears excellent, too. Not too fancy, but not too casual. (I have it in black) The material is soft (can’t assume of a superior word) so it’s easy to squeeze in to tight spaces – but yet it is sturdy. I have a Fleurville Lexi carry and I adore it, as well, but that handbag is actually type of stiff. I believe that Skip*Hop may grow to be my daily handbag. It is a little bit big – so if you’re not really in to substantial totes this might be far better as an over-night diaper tote.

I rather commute on my bike, bring a big comfortable backpack and all set. I am so happy and enjoy it so much! I guess that is what people see as sexy… Ready for a 58 mile commute today!

  • http://mytentsforcamping.info Bryan

I think it’s just the aspect of being healthy, getting in shape that makes cyclists of both genders very appealing.

  • VitaminLee

Ahhh shucks man, now I’ll be checking out chicks while they’re riding. Gotta say – I’ve never given them a second glance (put them on a pair or skates and va va voom) -

  • http://www.veloweb.ca Raymond Parker

Everyone is more sexy on a bicycle.

You don’t need to be young and “attractive” either. Cycling will get the blood flowing (to all quarters) give your skin a glow and enliven your spirits.

This will make you more attractive to yourself as well as others.

    Yes, enjoy your ride!

    • http://www.lovingthebike.com Darryl

Exactly Raymond….it’s a great state of mind that comes with being on a bike that pumps up the sexiness level. Age is irrelevant.

  • http://marijolamarche.wordpress mari-jo Lamarche

Ok Darryl, “Cyclist guys” is on my to do list now…I’ll need to get thumbs up from Coachpat first, hihi!
PS I do feel sexy and strong when I’m on my bike!

    • http://www.lovingthebike.com Darryl

Just make sure you list him as one of the sexy ones and I’m sure he’ll give you the go ahead. Can’t wait to read it.

  • http://massivemtber.blogspot.com/ Clive Chapman

Sexy on a bike? Hmm, not too sure about that, if you could see me struggling up Mucklow Hill in the English Midlands, panting like a steam train, drool running down my face and my sweaty 18 stone something body (252 Ibs for the Americans out there) wobbling its way upwards then sexy isn’t the word I’d use to define it. Also at my stage of rediscovering the bike, not only do I not look sexy I certainly don’t feel it! I can barely breathe when I get to my destination and everything hurts. But at 46 years old I guess it’s meant too!

    • http://www.myrnacgmibus.blogspot.com,www.myrnacgmibus.com Myrna CG Mibus

      Clive,
Now that I started bicycling I find just about everyone on a bike at least a little sexy no matter their size. I think it’s because I realize how much work goes into cycling, the dedication and willpower to tackle a hill or continue on a ride. A person who is working hard to do something positive is sexy in my book.

Plus all you have to do for me to think you are sexy is talk. Ah, I love a British accent. And you are a nice looking man. Okay, I’d better quit now before I get myself into trouble – being a married woman and all ;-)

      • http://massivemtber.blogspot.com/ Clive Chapman

        Blush…Thanks anyway… :)

    • VitaminLee

Clive you’re a hoot – English Midlands eeh, sounds picturesque.

  • Jon Spangler

    Darryl,

When I rode the first AIDS/LifeCycle ride I enjoyed the strength, grace, and athleticism of all the riders, despite being straight and married. I met two gay men who started at the back of the pack every morning just so they could “enjoy the view” of all the “boys” in lycra. So the attraction works in all directions.(I have always thought that muscles and sweat on a woman were very attractive, but I have always enjoyed strong women…

I found the Japanese calendar off-putting, probably because the male promoter seemed to focus so much on the women as sex objects and not as athletes. (Objects being the operative word…)

I met my wife on a bike club ride in 1987 and we’ve been married 21 years. To her, one of my assets when we first met was my “cute bikie butt.” It ceased being so “cute” long ago, but I still feel strong on a bike in ways that I do not anywhere else. And there is a lot to be said for post-ride romancing–if you didn’t leave it all on the last hills…

    • http://www.lovingthebike.com Darryl

Great comments, Jon. Yes, I opted to just link to the photos of the Japanese calendar instead of putting them on the post….The sexiness of biking babes comes from their athleticism and from being on the bike, not from what they are wearing.

  • http://www.cyclelicio.us/ Richard Masoner

And to avoid the sexist label, you should also point out the same applies for guys! It’s a scientific fact that both men and women are over 30% more attractive when they’re seen on bike!

    • http://lovingthebike.com Loving the Bike

Thanks for pointing out the stats, Richard. I guess I’m not the only one who thinks cyclists are more sexy. You are a class act and excellent cycling blogger by the way.

  • http://www.evoluer.me eva // èvoluer

I find that I get two distinctly reaction when I ride my bike.

The first one is usually a smile/nod/wink which usually happens when I’m cruising on one of my vintage bikes in street clothes.

The second is a grunt/scowl/confused ‘wtf’ when Im powering up a steep climb passing them along the way… he he ;)

    • http://lovingthebike.com Loving the Bike

Sexy and powerful….what a great combination.

  • http://www.allisonpeacock.com/ Allison Peacock

    Myrna and Slorunner,

My thoughts exactly. Both of you nailed it. And I’m loving how I feel on my bike and what it’s doing – slowly – to my body. Not sure I look sexy chugging up a hill and breathing hard either. But the strength I’m developing both physically and mentally is the sexiest thing ever. I can’t imagine anything better I could be doing for my relationship with my body! And THAT’S sexy.

    Allie

  • Machinistusa

Yes I do agree with the sexiest woman ride bikes. Plus the fact you immediatly have something in common with them. Though if if I do see them on a road bike. I can’t help but think. Dangit! I’m about to get my rear romped again.

    • http://lovingthebike.com Loving the Bike

Hey….it’s good motivation to go chase them down once they pass you, right?

  • http://www.myrnacgmibus.blogspot.com,www.myrnacgmibus.com Myrna CG Mibus

Have you seen me pedaling up a hill? Not sure if sexy fits that image but I’m not a guy…
I struggle with the image of me as a sexy woman most of the time so it’s no surprise I don’t necessarily feel that way when I’m biking. But – I feel like a strong woman when I’m riding. Feeling strong is giving me more confidence which is helping me feel better in the sexy cycling woman department and in the sexy when I’m not cycling department. Probably more than anyone wants to know but you did ask :)

As for cycling guys…they sure have nice leg – and with that image in my mind I’m going to find it difficult to get back to work ;)

    • http://lovingthebike.com Loving the Bike

Feeling strong and confident is always sexy. Good job, Myrna.

      whoops, that’s “legs” not “leg”

  • http://www.slorunnermom.com Slorunnermom

Well I sure feel sexy on my bike. Flying down that bike path with the wind in my face and my quads on fire! Sure makes me feel sexier than when I run that is for sure. :-)

    • http://lovingthebike.com Loving the Bike

Seeing as you’re a runner, it’s cool to know that you find cycling sexier. Thanks.
