Health IQ

I came across this one through my involvement in the Cycling360 Podcast, and wanted to share the information over here with our readers.  Oh, and unfortunately what this company has to offer is only available to US residents at the moment.

Okay, so you know how you get asked a whole bunch of health related questions when it comes to getting life insurance?  Well, these are all questions that raise your cost if you’re below what they consider average.

What if they asked a question that would lower the cost of your insurance because they were looking to see if your fitness is above average?  It only makes sense, check out these health stats on cyclists:

Cyclists who ride an hour a day, have an 18% lower risk of all-cause mortality than non-cyclists.

For those who ride an hour and a half or more, the benefit increases to 28%, according to a 2000 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The guys over at Health IQ have come to help us out.  You start off by taking their quiz….and believe me this one isn’t some Mickey Mouse test.  They really want to test you out to make sure you’re an avid cyclist who knows a lot about your sport.

From there, they will work with you and use your cyclist lifestyle to your benefit and get you a special rate on your life insurance.

I love seeing companies that cater to cyclists, and Health IQ is definitely making it happen.  Check them out, save some money, and keep on cycling.

Enjoy Your Ride

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
