Great list! Here is another one. A custom headset cap form kustomcaps.com. Unique and cheap!

Just be careful who you get the subscription through. If it’s a third party and you decide to cancel, they will automatically renew the next year. Bicycling Magazine doesn’t care and it’s virtually impossible to get the third party to desist. Short of cancelling your credit card and getting a new one.

Great ideas and wonderful prices on the Loving The Bike merchandise!
I hope you don’t mind if I chime in with two other ideas …Here in Minnesota we need cold weather biking gear and I found my LBS has great balaclava (face mask/hat thing) for about $20. I plan to get one for my husband, Owen, for Christmas (shhh, don’t tell!)Here’s a link with pictures: http://milltowncycles.blogspot.com/2011/10/new-cold-weather-head-ware.htmlAlso, this year my family is going to buy less for ourselves and give to others in need. We discovered we can donate $36 to send a bike to Africa so healthcare workers can get around to deliver medications and services – this fits in with our love of biking and helps others, a wonderful win-win!

You guys are incredible….what a great thing you’re doing with your donation to Bike to Africa, and what a great lesson to your kids.  Thanks for the suggestions, Myrna….very much appreciated.

Great list, thanks for putting it together.  My family is always asking me for affordable gift ideas so now I have a list for them.  That cycling artwork looks great and I would love to have a couple of them.

I’ve been wanting to get a loving the bike jersey for a while now.  Getting 30% is going to be great.  Yaaaay, I can’t wait to get it.

These are some really good ideas and I like that they’re all price quite nice.  I’d like to get one of the kits for myself since I didn’t win one in your contest.  The magazine would be nice.

Great list of ideas.  You’ve just made this year’s shopping so much easier for me.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
