Make it Happen Monday: Cycling for your Heart

Could your Heart use an extra workout this month?  As part of our regular Make it Happen Monday series, we’re hoping to inspire you to take part in the MapMyFitness Quaker Challenge.  It’s a fantastic event being put on by the good folks at Quaker and MapMyFitness to promote the importance of having a healthy heart, and to inspire people to make exercise a part of their heart healthy lifestyle.

When we were asked to take part and help promote this event, I was definitely all in.

Here’s the deal…they want everyone to commit to doing 15 fitness activities in 30 days, and you can join in on this challenge by Entering Right Here.  As you probably already know, I put a lot of time in on the bike and will be putting in much more than 15 days of riding over the next 30 days.  But what I am personally doing for this challenge is committing to getting the rest of my Family active over the next 30 days….plus any of you who would like to join us.  I’m going to make sure my Wife and Kids get out running, biking, or walking at least 15 times by getting involved in these activities with them.

February is National Heart Health month, so it’s the perfect time to commit to making your heart healthier.  I know a lot of our readers are in the same situation as me and won’t have a problem getting in a bunch of activity.  But if this isn’t the case, let’s use this event and the activity of cycling to get you moving.  Even if it’s only 5 more minutes a day, what extra step will you take to stay fit?

Join the MapMyFitness Quaker Challenge and also get in on a chance to win $750.  Simply compete these two steps and you’re in to win:

1.  Share the challenge with your friends.
2.  Tell us that you’ve invited your friends to join the challenge AND share what motivates you to stay healthy in the comments section below.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
