Let’s Talk About the Other Things You Love

Yes, this site is called Loving the Bike and I know we all love cycling very much.  But for this month’s Let’s Talk feature, we want you to tell us about other fun and adventurous activities that you love as well. Maybe there aren’t any others, and that’s cool as well.  But we want you to add in your response in the comments section below.

Have a look at this quick video I shot on the weekend while taking part in a little sailing regatta here in Grenada.  Being on the water is one thing I definitely love, and going out in a big sailboat like that is something I’ve always wanted to do.

    Anything with my wife! Seriously, I love to have adventures with her, see new things. Mostly things that are new to both of us. New places new sounds and tastes. To me, its kinda like the old saying “if a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound?”, I like to experience things together and be able to share a memory and talk about it later. If I do it alone, after a while its almost like it never happened.
    Most of the experiences are outdoor related, hiking, canoeing, (I have to leave out cycling so…). But I also enjoy historical places, and amazing architecture, especially the really old stuff or places that have “spiritual” significance, which can be defined many ways.
    I also LOVE to surf, but have not done that in a long time. And I love to play music. It’s all good mon!

    I love being outdoors and sharing it with someone special. I am drawn to the ocean, and I love the mountains. I love sunrise while seeing the brilliance of color that starts it all.
    I always have a camera and I am intent on taking a picture for memory and beauty.
    I love to see things from a new perspective, almost kidlike.
    My bike has been an instrument to which I travel with to these places, thank God for that.
    As much I love my bike, I am grateful that I love the world I share.

    Not sure what is the right answer, fore me this is by far one of the must difficult questions to answer today…. Lets see, I like to go out to town with my family…. by bike, I like to go to the park….by bike, sometimes I like to go to the movies, by bike. I like to meet with people… by bike and talk about …..bikes and bike advocacy. I guess I have a pretty joyful life, simple, fun and in harmony.

    I love riding my bike but also love pottery and painting. Those are my creative outlets and cycling helps serve as the inspiration many times to what I create.

    I’m a triathlete so along with cycling I enjoy running and swimming. I also enjoy soccer and lifting weights. My loves outside of sports are camping, music, and design.

    Other non-cycling things I love…my fiance, my dog, sometimes the cat. Activity-wise: hiking, kayaking, cars, photography, doing random stuff in HTML :) Recently I’ve come to love cooking, especially when it can be healthy food. (Thanks to Kelli!)

    Skiing and running. I grew up on BMXs, mountain bikes and skateboards so skiing is a natural fit. I live in the UK so skiing is mostly out of arm’s reach for me so I get a little over excited when I do go. But when I do go all the cycling and running I do all year pays off.

    More recently I got into road cycling and did the Tourmalet in France this year. That blew my mind (and my legs) and I can now see the appeal of the mountains in the winter and in the summer!

    My other love is photography. It is not that unusual to see me on a bike based wander with a full camera bag on my back chasing down fun pictures. :-D

    Along with biking I really love to cook, read, and yoga. But my bike is much more fun and exciting then any of those.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean ”lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
