Here’s a real basic topic for you…..cycling shorts or bibs?  As with all our “Let’s Talk” posts, we ask you to create the content by leaving your comments, opinions, and tips on anything to do with this topic.

Have a quick watch of the video, or just skip on down to the bottom and leave us your remarks.  I’m looking forward to what you all have to say on this one.

Definitely bibs, although they pose more problems as a girl than they do to guys. Badly positioned straps (partly dependent on asset size) can cause havoc and toilet stops are a nightmare. For all the potential downsides though, they are so much better. Better comfort and support when riding always wins out for me.

I have one pair of shorts and one pair of bib shorts. In winter, I wear the shorts under bibtights (if it’s cold enough). In winter I wear the bib shorts. It”s nicer having an all in one garment. Just feels better. I think it looks better too. By the way thanks for wearing one of my shirts in the video!

Switched to bibs when I got a roadbike and now will never go back. Still easy to pee, not sure how easy for women.

Shorts for me, after cycling in bibs some years ago. I always make sure to wear the right shirts though! Not for the people riding behind me, but to be sure not to get my back exposed to much to the elements.

I wear bibs, never actually tried shorts.

when I started cycling I started in shorts. I have recently purchased a bib set. The shorts do not seem to fit as well as they used to (maybe I am loosing weight) so right now the bib fits better, however I feel like the pad is not as supportive as my shorts are. I will say the bibs were on sale and less expensive than most of the shorts that I have bought. Jury is still out with me.

Shorts for me.. Haven’t tried bibs yet, but at the same time I don’t see a need since my shorts fit perfect.

Like most everyone else I started with shorts but after about two years I tried bibs and won’t wear shorts again. One point re: bibs however is that you don’t want to wait too long for that nature break (a close call on my first ride).

shorts? Are you serious? It’s only bibs for this big bellied guy.

    Shorts.

I wear mostly shorts. For long rides with bathroom stops, it is tedious to get out of the jersey/shorts especially with loaded pockets. Most of my jerseys are not full zippers, that does make it a little easier.

As it was said before, I cycle in bibs!! Comfort!! Only time I wear ( tri ) shorts is on the trainer with no top, or if I’m doing a triathlon ( or a bike->run training session i might do tri shorts )

BIB’s no question about it…I have two pair of shorts left and I used them only when doing off the bike workouts

If I’m on the road I wear bibs. On the trainer I’ll wear shorts. Overall I’m more comfortable in bibs.

I am a Bib’s girl..that’s it! Hate the feeling of something pressing into my stomach so haven’t worn shorts since 2006. And I don’t care if it takes ‘longer’ to go to the bathroom. Bibs! Bibs! Bibs!

    Hi Darryl!!

Bibs all the way. I like the feel and fit. I haven’t worn shorts for over 8 years.

Just like Kevin w and Daryl, I started with shorts because they were cheaper and less intimidating. At some point, probably after a year or so, I got a great deal on a pair of high-end Descente bibs and have never worn shorts again. I like the bibs better because they have have a higher end pad, but also because they give my mid-section support where shorts do not. They’re a bit warmer in the summer just due to more material, but that minor downside is outweighed by the comfort and support I get from them. Yay bibs!

I sort of prefer bibs but wear shorts quite often as well. It all comes down to what’s clean and available for me.

  • Kevin w

I started in shorts because they were cheaper, more familiar and less intimidating. Now I ride exclusively in bibs. They are more comfortable and no one wants to see my backside while I’m riding down the street.

I also started with shorts because they were cheaper. My wife bought a pair of bibs for me a couple years ago and that is all I will buy now. I like them for comfort and how they fit in my biking position.
